hi everyone

have a ef fairmont 6 cyl and will eventually need to replace steel pipe for water pump.

was wondering whats best way of doing it? can you just remove exhaust manifold or do both manifolds need removing?

how longs it take to change that pipe?

out of 1. changing whole pipe and cutting pipe 2. flaring the ends then putting rubber hose to join the sections back together once in 3. cutting the bit off that goes in water pump then running rubber hose around and using a t peice with 2 19mm and 1 10mm fitting then connecting back up as factory which of those 3 options is least amount of work and is quickest and least likely to leak and last longer

has anyone got photos of their replacements and a guide

if anyone can help out thatd be great

also why do some people delete the expansion tank and have a normal cap and overflow instead is that as good if not better than expansion tank

thanks so much

why do you need to replace the pipe for?

you should only need to remove the exhaust manifold.

the pipe has an O ring that fits into the back of the water pump
so you are unable to run a rubber hose from the water pump
as well as it runs under the exhaust! the hose will melt, hence why it is made of steel!

depending on the brand of water pump ( found this out from the local mech ) and AFTER i had replaced mine and wondered why, the machining at the back of the water pump can be a bit too big
and you will need a sealant to help the oring seal!

i tried for 2 weeks trying different orings and ended up using blue gasket goo

where the plastic quick connect is that connects to heater hose can you cut it off and just put a rubber hose on that like in the ea to ed model to connect back up

can you use a cutting disk on a dremel to cut the pipe or arent the disks good enough

reason for eventually thinking about it is because the plastic bit moves a couple mm and end was starting to corrode and while its not at moment leaking it could at anytime

and meant leaving the section of steel on that goes to pump and having rest rubber like ba models have is that possible a couple have said you can do it and one sliced the pipe to connect a water feed for a turbo
