So I'm relooming my engine bay and dash with a cut down xr6 one from a ute.
The beauty of the ute loom is that it runs around the front of the engine bay instead of doubling up on the firewall. Anyway here's my progress so far. I started with the passenger side, removing all the wrapping and cleaned the loom. I used zip ties to keep the junctions in place so everything would be the same when i rewrap it.  I then removed everything associated with the auto trans as I run a manual.  Starting with the plug for the auto trans i removed the pins and followed the wires back to the ECU connector.  In total i only removed 7 or so wires from the loom but it cut down on the bulk of it considerably. Once that was done i started rewrapping the loom with what tape i had. I know the colour is terrible but most will be covered with shielding and what isn't i'll go over in black.

I wrapped up to the grommet that separates the engine bay wiring from the cabin wiring.
Next was to start fitting the ute dash loom to the sedan dash. I collected an EB dash with a loom in it and removed the loom. Cut all the wrapping from the ute loom and test fitted it to see how much alteration it will need.  Turns out quite a bit.  I fitted the fuse panel as a reference point and will work on the relay panel next. From there i should be able to get most of the wiring in the right place.

I'm unsure of how to handle the BCM/Smartlock module.
I think i'll try to patch the EB BCM and Smartlock module into the utes dash loom rather than trying to fit and mount the combination module to the EB dash.

My goal with all this is to have a "necessity" only loom that is free of connectors and plugs for accessories that aren't present in my current model EB.
Also have a less bulk loom that looks neat in the engine bay but hidden as much as possible. I would also like to patch wiring for HID ballasts into the loom and consolidate many 4, 6 and 12 connectors into 12 or 18 pin connectors.

Today i plan to fit the relay panel box.
The Heater box fan wiring is what's stopping me so far as there's not enough length to move the relay box further from the passenger side. The plugs are different between this XH and EB anyway so that will have to be changed.

Thanks man.
Certainly isn't a small task but luckily will only take time  ____________________________________________________________________ So basically all wiring the goes to the passenger side of the vehicle will need to be extended. I'll need to shorten the wires for the relay panel because the fuse panel and relay panel mounted next to each other create a huge loop of wires. I think I'm going to use the XH mid series BEM, not 100% sure where to mount it but might use a bracket that extends off the pedal box or handbrake to keep the module in the factory EB location. Possible clearance issues once the dash is in the car. Going to make a front end half-cut from an EB wreck to test fit all this too. Hard to visualize when everything is sitting on the ground. Have fitted an EL cluster to the temp dash and all plugs reach just fine, can even tighten their length up to feed more length elsewhere in the loom if need be.

I'm ditching the XH loom in favour of an AU series II loom.
The reason for this is I've planned a coilpack conversion for a long time and have had all the gear for quite a few months. Along with having an AU donor car I've had a decent (i think) engine built 16+ month ago that's been sitting in a shed at my parents. This new engine was originally meant to go into my S Pack but the circumstances changed and the engine was still being built when the stock engine gave way. So the XH XR6 engine went in, it had only done 140k km's and was a straight swap as i had already completed all the supporting mods. Securing an alternative ride was probably one of the biggest setbacks for the coilpack conversion. I travel a lot for work and used to have Mondays off but my travel has increased and I no longer have Mondays free which makes available time quite scarce. With June coming up and another car available it seems like a good time to get this done and i don't see the point in relooming my car twice.

This really doesn't belong here or this thread should be moved to another section but..
Just picked up my flywheel from being lightened! They said it was too heavy for their scales both before and after but looks good to me.  Will be sending it off to Mildura to be balanced next week as no one can do it where I am  _______________________________________________________________________________ Went back to work and weighed it on the scales there, 9Kg :O
