Hi Guys,

My Falcon XH ute won't start all of a sudden.
I got RAC to check and I have no spark or Injector pulse.
I checked the fuses as this was suggested (indoor light fuse is fine, indoor light works but has no globe in it. Taken that out as the light does never turn off)
My smartlock light comes on when I insert the key and then turns off as expected.

Can it be the dizzy or coil? Would that stop the injector pulse as well?
Where should I start troubleshooting?

Thanks

Replace both the distributor and the coil with new parts and you should be right. Everyone with an E-series (except maybe EF) should have spares of these in stock, as it's not a case of if they fail, but when they fail. And it never happens outside a pub. 8-)

Great thanks.
I already bought a coil as a first test.
I was hoping I don't have to replace the distributor as it is a real pain to get to and I have no idea how to adjust it once replaced.
Both coil and distributor are the original parts. Car has done 200K KM

Once I replaced the coil how can I test if the distributor gets power?
Can I just remove the cable going into the distributor and put it on the block to see if a spark comes out (similar to checking spark at the plug?
Sorry dumb question, I am not that technically minded when it comes to electricity.
I also read it could be the EFI module? Would that also stop spark and injector pulse if blown?

Cheers

numerous possibilities - wiring -ECU-fuse-engine relay-ignition switch but coil and TFI module which is part of distributor are common faults..............
no spark = no injector pulse -
yes you can check for spark at the lead by holding lead near the block or earth a spark plug and connect the lead to it...........
check you have power at coil(red/green) wire with key on (reds)

possibly pick up s/hand distributor from wreckers and plug it in to wiring turn ignition on and spin by hand while checking for spark and injector pulse but don't do this to long as cylinders can fill with fuel-

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I put a new coil in and no go.
So I check if i have power going into the coil and it was but no power at the dizzy. After lots of swearing at the stupid position ford put the parts i figured power going in but not out it might be the lead going from coil to dizzy.
It still meassures the correct resistance but i replaced it anyways and bingo.
That was a $9 fix.
Baffled as hell as it measured ok but the car didn't start.
Once replaced she runs like a beauty

Good to hear you got it going again. But keep the new coil, and get yourself a TFI module for the distributor. At 200k, if they are original, they will probably die soon. Maybe get a Gregory's book for it, so you can learn how to do this stuff - they can be very helpful.
8-)

So she was running just fine for a few drives and now she is dead in the water again.

I once again checked the entry of the Coil (which is new) and have 12V when the ignition is on.
I will buy a new lead again today from coil to Dizzy to see if this is it again.
Is this a common part to fail?
Or has the new coil screwed something up and I should have replaced something with it?
I checked the lead I put it and it is a Spiral Wire lead, 0.5M and has 1.3K Ohm

Did you replace the TFI module?
It's the white thing that plugs into the dizzy.

I bought one but haven't replaced it yet.
It turns out it was once again the spark lead in between the coil and the dizzy.
No idea how that could fail twice in a month.
I bought a bosch set this time and replaced all leads. let's hope that works better.

it is possible that tfi module or dist hall sensor is failing intermittently when dist gets hot and runs again by the time you check and change coil lead due to it cooling down - tfi is normally grey - is a common fault

new coil should not harm anything -
consider it unusual for 2 coil leads to fail -
use one of your old plug leads to check,if it fails again
did you check inside distributor cap to make sure carbon brush is in middle of cap and rotor is ok

In my case it didn't have anything to do with heat.
The car didn't start at all for about 2 days.
It ran fine, then I parked it and the next day it didn't start any more.
Since I replaced the lead again it hasn't missed a beat.

I haven't opened up the distributor yet as it is such a pain to get to.
I guess I should bite the bullet and check it?
Is there any tricks how to get your hand under the injector manifold? It was hard enough to change the spark leads.

Thanks

Is this with a BBM?

I'm not sure if this applies to everyone but I can take the leads off the dizzy cap and undo the dizzy by getting one hand down beside the strut tower and intake and then under.
The other hand just go in from the front.

Kills the backs of my legs though.
I also don't have stock AC lines, this is where it might not work for everyone.
