Hi Guys, I need some advice as i just bought a second hand El Falcon staight 6 auto. I was driving along the motorway and i accelerated to 100km/h then suddenly the revs started bouncing and it just cuts out. I then had to pull over and it seemed like it needed to cool down then it started again. This happened around 5 times in the one trip but doesnt happen on journeys where i am not going over 80km/h.

I had done some research and it seems it could be a number of things ranging from poor fuel from the pump to a faulty fuel pressure gauge or faulty distributor? i dont want to ask mechanic to look at it to hear than it needs $2000 worth of parts fitted!

Any ideas?

Thanks

hey buddy ive had the same problem on my EL XR6 tho its ended up being the hall effect sensor inside the dizzy. i thought it was TFI modular on the side of the dizzy until i fitted a new one and it still didnt fix the problem so i brought whole distributor and fitted it and what do you know it fix the problem. best bet is to try and find a geniune bosch one on ebay for $200 not some cheap one if you do go down that path make sure you fit your original distributor drive gear to your new dizzy i hope this helps you in some way cheers.

Hi man, the first thing i read was that the distributor was damaged. Thanks hopefully that helps! I wonder how much it would cost for the mechanic to fit it!

its shouldn't cost that much its a pretty straight job nothing hard about it. fitted mine in about less than 30 mins. if you do decide to do it yourself just make sure before removing the dizzy from the car that cyl 1 is at tdc and the rotor button under the dizzy cap is pointing towards the start/finish mark cant remember which one it be one of them. if the rotor button is facing the opposite way that means its 180 degrees out so rotate the motor until it is facing towards start/finish and the mark on the harmonic balancer is at tdc.
