G'day thrillseekers, today I had occasion to use my aircon., but, despite all efforts, It wouldn't cool. So, I had a look, and, to my amazement, the compressor clutch was missing!!!!!!!!!

Now, I have never heard of this before, as I believe the nut that holds the clutch on is a left hand thread???!!!!

Has anybody else had the compressor clutch disappear?????????? I can't remember any "clunks" or "Trumps" to accompany the vanishing of the bits.

And I never did anything to loosen the nut that holds the clutch on...................

Funny thing is: there isn't any damage to anything around the compressor to show that it has been flung off. It's almost as though someone came along and removed it.

Yeah, looking at the thread again..........

At least the clutch rotor has a snap ring to keep it on!

Ford has a clutch kit listed AS :# EA 2 F 884 B, I will call Monday to see if it can still be got. Otherwise another compressor, which means regassing etc.

Why don't you get one from a wreckers ?

The nut is 12/13mm from memory - you need something like a angle grinder tool to hold the clutch (that's what I use). Don't forget the small spacer washer.

Yeah, I'll give that a go first, although i have found a comp. on Fleabay for 70 bux. I reckon that would be cheaper than a new clutch kit.

Yep, had a look at the manual and noted the shim. Also noted the air gap too. .35 to .65 mm 8-)
How many shims does it normally take?

No, I think it is a Nyloc type. It looks like it on the parts diagrams

It is similar, but has a thin metal sliver at the top that locks it.

Just an update: put a new clutch on, the original shim was still there!! A decent dab of Loctite. Aircon works MUCH better now.

Clue about using grinder spanner was great, worked like a charm.............. 8-)

Yeah, works well - I suppose you could use a rattle gun, but space is limited, and you risk shearing the shaft off (seen a few of those).
