G'day all

I've got an EL falcon 4.0lt six auto taxi pack.

About a year ago it broke down. There was no spark, so in went a cheap and nasty Chinese Fuel Miser coil. It was good for a few weeks but was difficult to start and sputtered under load.

Then it broke down again. I sent it to the doctor and it got a new distributor and TFI module. It still sputtered and stuttered, especially under load, and was still hard to start.

So I got a code reader and it told me that the ECU was history. So in went an ECU out of a manual XR6. I threw in a manual gear box, heavy duty clutch and a nice little MGW short shifter for good measure as well. Bloody nice drive, but it still sputtered and stuttered and f@rt.

Given that the old girl has 250,000 km on it, my son (a Kenworth mechanic), thought it could be the fuel pump. So in went a Walbro 255lph pump. Yup - it still sputtered and stuttered and f@rt under load. But it starts nicely now.

Out came the code reader again. This time it was telling me that the MAP sensor was jiggered. So in went a new made in the US of A Wells MAP Sensor. It still sputtered and stuttered and there could even have been a few lumps in them there f@rt.

So I tested the TPS. The voltage started at about 0.8 volts and rose to about 4.4 volts at wide open throttle. It dropped to 0.0 volts several times on the way from closed throttle to wide open throttle though.

Out came the original TPS and in went a TPS out of a wreck. The voltage on this one started at about 0.8 volts and rose to about 4.4 volts at wide open throttle as well. It only dropped to 0.0 volts once as the throttle opened though. The code reader gave me the 122 code (TPS below minimum voltage). And of course, it was still f@rt'. Especially at speed under load.

So I got a brand spanking new made in the US of A Standard brand TPS. It starts (closed throttle) at about 1.6 volts and rises smoothly to about 4.4 volts. But it also drops to 0.0 volts momentarily when it gets to about 3.8 or 3.9 volts. The code reader is now giving me the 121 code (TPS out of calibration). I only put it in tonight, and haven't taken the car for a spin yet, but the idle is still rough. This is in part because of the cam and because the ECU is relearning. But it still has that slight miss or stutter at idle. I can't help thinking that it will still stutter at speed under load again.

Anyway, after all that, I'm interested in the thoughts of you learned people.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
