In relation to someone thinking I was PHonGuS...

Yeah, like I wish I was that smart, handsome and had a car like his....

Video from the event on sunday... Click here

Quite happy to be out and about, being followed by the Toyota 86... Car was going okay considering the J3 was proven to be dead and car was not running with 350kpa fuel regulator just 48 hours prior to this event starting...

Managed some pretty good drifting later in the day, before loosing third gear (oil cooler required) after the third lap... This video shows me going straight ahead after letting the super fast little Datsun race car past at the left hander. Front wheels locked up as tried braking at same point as the 900kg pocket rocket (DUH!)..

Anyways, get out and support your local grass roots event.

You fella's without leaf springs in your 1800kg cars should kick my butt.

Nah... There is a video of it driving though....!....

Uhm, car looks horrid right now - Ripped the rear bar off going through a bump in the in field after trying to drift the front straight....
;-)

Filled the radiator intake up with grass (as you do) and then the tow system broke on the way home... Had a hard time getting it a hundred kilometres to a safe place before getting back to pick up the tow car...
Is sitting on 16" wheels (same size as the AU XR6) with some slicks on it... Crazy large wheel arch for such a thing, I admit. Front shocks and springs are SL AU, top control arms have been shortened to give a little caster and camber.... Worked a little better at the track, but after nose diving into the ditch the steering alingment is miles off - think that whatever is left of that K-frame is a joke, and probably pushed the shock towers around a mm or two over the years of abuse also.

Alloy on roof is a patch job as have an inner roof of alloy which was designed to work with removing the rear window and running perspex down to the tailgate lip. Basically this gave the car the same aero as a very large two door coupe. It was disqualified during scrutineering a few weeks ago, so now has a perspex rear window with alloy support in prescribe FIA fashion.
:P

Also have removed the front bit of the sill to the wheel arch, allowing air out smoothly. Will put alloy sheet under the car from mid floor pan, under the diff, to the back bar to prevent the parachute bumper at some point in future....

Found some four pot Brembo brakes on a V8 BMW that are not too far away from fitting the AU3 stub axle and large brake package... Will get these on one day, along with the two pot AU3 XR6 brakes on the back.. . Yeah, kiwi style bro.

The list of things to do is huge. The cash and energy level is not there. Working on your little driveway in front of a state house is not good. The kitchen has more tools and car parts than kitchen stuff. The lounge ain't much better.

Have not managed to buy steel to make a new tow rig as power and phone bills came in...
So, back to the real world. And making excuses to an ex about leaving car in her yard.

At least her cats have a toy for a week or two...

Mad bro...

Car has OUTPAWED - Feral Cat Rescue advertising on it.

Also has WINZ RACING on front window... WINZ is NZ version of Centerlink if I have not mentioned that before.

Look for @winzracing on twit-her or stalkerbook!

And here was the version with my old battle tank...

The car is now back to running very poorly on intermitant cylinders. Had to drive it a hundred km on the road and could only afford a very little crappy 91 octane petrol to get there. Pretty sure that has something to do with it.

Currently using a 350kpa fuel reg and AU injectors. Was running BA injectors for a while.

SERIOUSLY need a new J3 chip. My one, serial number tc001-054 which was a replacement for tc001-049 which came with the wrong tune installed, is as old as the hills and probably the first one to come to New Zealand.

I think they are up to 1800 units sold now, going by other peoples serial numbers on the back of the T.I performance chip.

Well, fired up the car yesterday, large amounts of smoke, running on four or five out of six, sputtering and clogging up earths atmosphere. Really about time the au engine got itself together with the vct head and a getting cam with this silly supercharger installed.

But hey, I need to remind myself about being on a benefit with a broken spine some days.

When it turns into weeks, years, decades... f**k it anyway...

Thanks to Kelford Cams for their good little guide to DEGREEING CAMS I have realised something pretty harsh, which worked out really well (by accident)...

Quote from https://www.kelfordcams.com/…/the-sole-purpose-of-degreein…/

""On SOHC & DOHC engines, milling the head or the block will retard the cam(s)""

So I went and shaved quite a lot from a XH longreach XR6 Tickford head, and then put in a much much thinner head gasket. This bumps up compression, of course.

The old Fords did not have a vernier cam gear - they are a chain driven sprocket that only goes on the cam in one angle - therefore I had effectively changed the rotation of the cam by a degree or two by moving the cam closer to the engines crank shaft.

I guessed that it is opening the valves earlier, and closing them earlier. Not by much, but enough to make things different on the after market cam install. Although, with the higher compression created, think that the slightly advanced cam would have been somewhat beneficial.

So, now it is reversed - it has been opening and closing the cam LATER than I expected. And it worked well... If completely absurdly.

I have not pulled the head back off this engine in a long time, but expect to see some mess in there. Having no rev limiter and changing gears when valve bounce kicks in above 7,600rpm is probably not recommended for engine longevity. When doing burnouts and holding at high rpm there was also flames coming out exhuast which would suggest the 1994 EF style computer which fires a spark on the exhuast stroke as well as the proper ignition stroke was catching some unburnt gas in the pipes as the old time engine struggled to keep up with itself.

However the effect at night time was pretty damn cool.

Am aiming towards getting Kelford Cams to do a regrind on a Tickford 2003 AU3 XR6 VCT cam to suit sitting at around 16psi blower input.

I will not be shaving this head much at all, and may increase the combustier chamber size by some redumentary head work - radius curves over sharp surface and that sort of thing.

May use Crow cams 140lbs valve springs and retainers via T.I. Performancehttps://www.tiperformance.com.au/…/crow-cams-au-race-valve…/

Ho hum. So much to do, so little money... And getting more and more concerned about the lack of hours I get from the systematically screwed spine of mine...

 FIENDISH FIREWALL FABRICATION UPDATE

Hello again. It update time on the Fiendish Ford Firewall Fabrication to fix the cable clutch cracking conundrum.

For those driving XD, XF, EA, EB, ED, EF, EL, XH or XG Ford Falcon variants the cracked firewall / split firewall / damaged clutch cable issue is something that comes up often.

Also, as well as fixing your Falcon firewall crack, they will fit Escort..

Image
^^ Mark two Ford Escort being made into a current rally car

I have been struggling away making a few of these firewall strengthening plates from time to time. Basically people pay me half up front which allows me to make them. Then I ship them and the courier makes more money than I do.

So, now T.I.Performance have paid up front to make a batch and are storing them in Melbourne meaning that poor punters don't have to deal with me and my turn around times in making these little beasties.

They have been through about a dozen design changes over the years, but retain the three holes for attachment. Even though you really don't need three holes, it is a homage to TROYMAN as such. Thus, they stay.

If you were to make these professionally, reckon you would give up quickly. So little profit that if I was to pay myself $20 an hour I would lose money.

In the past this site was BUSY BUSY BUSY and there was once a dozen unread emails in my box asking me to make more of these. Honestly, it was not worth while at the time. My spine wasn't doing too badly and thus I was out doing things a lot more.

Now the old broken spine is slowing me down even more I have time on my hands. Once more strenuous tasks like pulling engines or changing diffs would have kept me busy and out of trouble, I now find myself doing an hour or two a day of meaningful activity. I am also on an invalids benefit getting about $170 a week. So, have no overheads. But no money. There would be a lot more ideas of mine turned into products if not for the spine, the finances or my terrible attitude to taking life seriously.

So, this is hardly an advert, more a good service announcement.

:D    :? :!: :x   :o :P    :| :| :| :)

J.B from T.I has paid Fordmods.com advertising dollars for his own products and designs, so figure the powers that be running this great old site won't mind me mentioning this.

*PLEASE GET OFF FACEBOOK AND GET YOUR CAR QUESTIONS BACK TO FORDMODS.COM OR OTHER CAR FORUMS THAT SUIT YOU*

Stalkerbook is s**t house for serious car stuff. You get newbies asking the same question every night. You get the amount of trolling and stupidity that only exists on Stalkerland interupting serious discussions.

At least here you get the same old timers criticising the f**k out of you for not using the search function before asking what oil you should use in your AU3 XR6 with 366,666km on it.

USE FORDNODS.COM. Not STALKERBOOK.

IN the meantime, if your MANUAL Australian Ford Falcon, XR8, XR6, Fairmont etc has a problem with crack, get it on the road to recovery.

Been working too hard on the ELRUSTO wagon in the front yard to do much else for a while. Not that anyone reads this any longer... Although, according to Fordmods, there is still a few hundred people a day looking at this complete crap build...

Anyway, wtf. Here we are again. The daily blog post has turned into a three times a year effort.

May have to do a mighty big update one day.

Just so those mega servers that troll and save everything on the internet will be able to show my great great great great grandkids what has been happening between 2007 and 2018 whilst owning this silly old taxi.

Of course the world will still exist in a few hundred years and we will have great great great great grandkids.

Promise.

Chur bro Mad.....

Today went to Pick A Part Wellington and took two hours to get a U Bolt out for the ELRUSTO rustwagon. Didn't have a hammer. Didn't have any deep sockets of 22m variety handy. Was a complete muck around. Did, however, have a thread file (thank f**k for small mercys) and only hit my finger once attempting to use a brake rotor as a hammer to hit bottom of U Bolt upwards.

Got there in the end.

ELRUSTO now has four U bolts on the uniquely edited leaf spring suspension package that has been tested and found to work just fine. Lowers car by a couple of inches basically, without blocks or reshaping the spring leaves...

This wagon may yet get a warrant of fitness, some registration and even insurance.

Damn well hope so as has been a huge mission to save the $200 March 1998 EL wagon from being sent to scrap... Is starting to look quite tidy in places even.

Image

Here is what poor old "Futurlane" is looking like right now. Slightly cannibalised for some good sills and other bits and bobs.

This is completely fine, and to be expected.

As a donor it is doing the world a favour by shedding things it doesn't need for the greater good.

In this instance showing you what is under those 0.6 or so thick "sills" that are really just "facade" or "visual" bits. Nothing structural about them at all in my mind. And proper automotive engineers (like, real university engineers who specialise in automotive design) have agreed with me once they have seen what is underneath.

So, go show your warrant of fitness guy what is under those "rusty sills" next time they want to fail you.

Of course, you may have to open the sill up to show them that underneath isn't rusted to f**k and back.

I should have taken more photos inside ELRUSTO whilst it was open and on the operating table...
