just a quick querry people.. my oil pressure seems to be dropping most of the time now... cause ive got an el fairmont ghia and its got the oil pressure guage thats how i know.. its got plenty of oil in it and ive asked a couple of people put they dont know.. also some times ill be sitting at the lights and the presure drops and i have to stall the car up.. to bring the pressure back up..it drops all the way cause it start beeping at me!
any one know whas goin on???? |

You could havea stuffed oil pump!
how long ago was the oil changed? and are you using a good oil? these can affect your oil pressure as well

If you got oil in your car ignore the oil pressure guage, i havent owned a car with one that workes. Mine always goes up to full when driving and drops to 0 when ideling and jumps up and down when it wants to. it sometimes even beeps at me. As long as your oil level is correct you should be ok.

ohh yes great way to go man....
mmm oil pressure drops to zero...... that mean no oil circulating in engine = no lubrication of major parts..... DAMAGE can and will be caused!

i do an oil change and change the oil filter then ill c what happens.. whats a good oil to use that can handle the performance stuff ive done??

well yes/know it seems by going with what he has said the oil pump is producing prssure above idle speeds hence it may just be a worn drive shaft or somethign
i think fuzzy was having the same dramas! as for the oil i use penrite hpr 15

what i ment is that mine has been doing the same thing from the day i got it 90 000km's later its still doing the exact same thing, it hasn't missed a beat.

Yup this is a common prob with the fairmonts, but its nothing to worry too much about just be sure it doesnt drop to zero as you will be f**k. It should jump up straight away after idle is liftled slightly. Ive recently fitted a new sender (the other one broke in half) and it seems to read a little better. HPR 15 is a little light to be running in a car that has done more than 200,000kms so I use HPR 30. Penrite is fairly good oil in my oppinion, and shell is kind of a standard, but Ive found it to be not as good.

As above, as long as the oil's still getting up there it's not uncommon for the gauge to be a little dodgy. If it relly worries you get somebody to screw a pressure gauge into the sender hole in the block and test it for you - probably worth doing just in case the pump really is buggered.
