i is gettin worried... its a hot day here, 33 degres (hot for melb) and i took the car for a 3 hour drive, and the radiator light came on for a min at a time then turned off for 30 seconds then came back on... checked the coolant in the overflow tank, it was half full... engine gave off more heat than usual and car was sluggish...

fan was spinning when i checked also... any ideas? PLEASE dont say head gasket cos i will shoot my car if is another one of those expensive bastards

Let's not jump to any hasty conclusions.....

I'd just keep an eye on the coolant level. If keeps going down then start losing a bit of sleep. If there's coolant in the resevoir then coolant should be fine in engine and radiator.

Was it the first time it got a real good heating up? Maybe some air removing itself. Hows the cap on the resevior? Last coolant change was done when?

last coolant change about 3 months ago... coolant was still a good color, oil seems fine though i need to do my rocker cover gasket... it was the first time i've taken the car on a really long trip in the heat... hope it was only air... how often should i check the coolant level to see for head gasket?

hmm some parts of me hopes it is a head gasket... can anyone say ITS?

he he he

thanks for the replies people ;)

For a while my coolant was leakn like a siv it was completely dry every few days and i was just filling it and stressn out about it!.... then when i got around to it i bought a pressure tester and it ended up being that someone had avoided putn a gasket on my thermostat housing and the gasket glue they used was just turned to s**t.. so replaced one gasket which was like 2 buks and now its fine!..

I had the thermostat stuff up on my EB II recently, I only know this because the temp gauge shot up in the red one morning going to work, so I replaced the thermostat & the gasket that goes around the thermostat & the problem is now solved.

I have one of those warning lights on my cluster as well, but it would require the engine to be in meltdown before it lights.

What model of Falcon do you have?

If the float seems to be behaving strangely, try this - remove float from header tank - clean assembly with soapy water - rinse off - reinstall. Don't forget ot top up the tank.

That warning light is only for low coolant level nothing to do with temperature.
