hi there, just wondering if there is anyway to lower boost levels.
as i have a mini im going to muck around with and put a turbo on it, i dont want to run the turbo at its normal boost level because it mite be too much for the engine so to make sure i dont blow it up first go i want to lower the boost to a safer level. will a boost controller do this, or can they only increase the boost? any help will be very good |

yes boost controller will only incress the pressure. u will need a smaller spring in wastegate

or put restrictors in the vaccum line

putting restrictors in vacume line is the same as a boost controller it will not lower boost pressure

a smaller spring in the wastegate you say......
are there differnt wastegates i could buy already like this, or do i have to do it my self, is it a hard mod to carry out? |

I dont think it should be a very big mod. I guess it depends of the wastegate.
However there is another way. Most probably not as efficient but it shows you another way. Just goto the autospeed website and do a search for 'venting boost'. Have a quick read of that and let us know what you think of it. |

the venting boost pages seemed sorta hard to understand but still interesting but i need to pay for the pages or some crap so i left it at that,
i had a brief look into the adjustable wastegate rod thing and that dont seem too hard i added a pic i found to see if thats what you are talking about, so i think making the adjustable rod would be better cos it is easily adjustable, campared to the spring method i'd need to get a whole heap of springs and keep changeing them to get the boost i want

Yes that will take preload from diaphram..You can purchase a low Lb wastegate if its an intergrated wastegate.. Having a rstrictive exhaust will limit boost / power also..Mazda did this on the Turbo 626's...
