the crank angle sensor is just below the number 5 and 6 cyclinder on the intake side.ALOT of people get this confused with the camshaft postition sensor that is located at cyclinders 1 to 2 on the intake side(including mechanics) If your car is lumpy on idle i would recomend chucking it on a test machines to get the error code and fixing ALL of them BEFORE i would look elsewhere

Yeah thanks for that info their Comhelp. Actually my idle is more how you say, "hesitant" when idling in park. I actuallymight do that dyno tuning as you suggest as their is a dyno tuner down the road from my place. I was also wondering as well, would a dirty airfilter make your idle lumpy or hesitant as well

I have tried similar to all above (excluding replacing ISC, though I have cleaned it and the crank angle sensor). I have checked the codes and have none..
I have reset the idle previously and it seemed to relive this problem for a while (though I didnt really drive it that often to find out for sure). I think I may try chucking on a second hand ISC or how much trouble / cost is a crank angle sensor? Thanks |

it is a b**ch to replace the camshaft position sensor, not too sure on the crank angle sensor. To let people know i have been quoted between $75 and $170 to replace the camshaft position sensor and that is without the cost of the sensor. Basically it is dead simple to remove the sensor but getting new one in is a b**ch as u have to put cyl 1 in TDC.

the crank angle sensor is located just behind the harmonic balancer pulley on ALL cars ( with coil pack setup ) . You will see a wire/connector just behind the pulley, the pulley needs to be removed the replace the sensor.
Common symptoms include rough idle ( intermittent or otherwise ) failure to start when hot ( pour cool water on it and she'll start ) may cut out when warm

i remember from fordmods ver1 that some people had this problem try cleaning the ics and the tb reset the base idle and see how you go.
when the computers are on the way out they do this 2 dont they???

I just had a similar problwm with mine, replaced the old motorcraft leads with a set of new bosch leads, and it's chugging along nicely now.
