i have two choices,
the front resonator needs replaceing ok now: would there be any benifit from fitting a hotdog under there or should i just get the resonator replaced as well as the main muffler. replaceing the two will cost the same as replacing it with just the hotdog, it was a big hotdog to

I'm guessing your talking about your stock/factory exhaust then?
If so, then this is the perfect time/oppurtunity to get a sports exhaust (if that's what you want). Otherwise, I wouldn't replace the bad front resinator. I'd just have it removed and have a peice of pipe put there. The reason is that a lot of people have said that removing the resinators doesn't effect the volume of the stock exhaust provided that the muffler is still there. So there's no point in paying extra for another resinator if you don't need it... |

i've been told by two places were i live that you can't replace it with a bit of pipe,there has to be something there,either a hotdog or a resonator.
i think i might have the hot dog out on first and see how it goes.

A hot dog will make the car very loud, just warning you now...But if thats what your aim is then by all means do it!!
Might make it drone a little bit too, but not sure on that one, i have heard quite a few exhaust systems with the hotdog on them and they were droning a fair bit. So yeah good luck.

hot dogs don't increase noise. And since he'll still have the rear resinator and the normal muffler I doubt it'd sound any different than stock - i'm still basing this on presuming that this is a stock system since it's a resinator either side of the muffler.
And there's no reason why the resinator shouldn't be able to be replaced with pipe - unless it's some gay law I guess. I mean heaps of people have done it. Just go to an exhaust shop that's not retarded! I've got a straight through muffler hot dog and hollowed cat (I've almost saved enough now to have a high flow fitted in replacment - the hollowed one came with the car) and my cars not overly loud. No were near as loud as the Corrollas/Lancers with cannon mufflers. |

its perfectly ok to have only 1 muffler, and no resonators..

It is perfectly fine to do hehehe
They object even less if you pay in cash... My old system had no mufflers/resonators, Just headers onto cat and then tuned pipe all the way through to a big tip, sounded mad

i think i might have the hot dog out on first and see how it goes. Then I'd say to go somewhere else. I've had it done to my old EB2 and the exhaust shop were quite happy to cut the resonater out and weld in a length of pipe instead. Later on, after the system rusted out I had the mid section replaced with a new stock mid section (Res & Muf) and a straight through tail section. The exhaust sounded ths same with both configurations. That is, virtually stock. It was just a fraction louder than standard, but nothing like a sports exhaust sounds.
