Sure it cant be much...fairlane wont start, it acts like its in a gear on the auto, it lights up all the warning lights but wont start....no signal on the wire leading to the solenoid on starter. Any ideas? The car has a vision CL2000 alarm fitted and im beginning to think the alarm is sus, but could there be something else sus thats causing it?

my auto stick in my NC is loose... i have to hold the stick firmly forward and to the left in park. else it does the same thing.. lights up.. no action.

i think this is due to the inhibitor switch as well as being a loose stick

Try bridging the inhibitor wires if this works the swotch is suspect ..Don't leave like this though its too dangerous...My guess is inhibitor switch is deffective or out of adjustement..

Check that switch wire that connects to starter motor also...The thin one..Check its connection try cleaning and re connecting with some graphite grease on contacts?? Check that all battery connections are tight, including earths from body to engine....

ok...tried the inhibitor switch, tried the shifter, tried cleaning terminals...nothing. As far as i can see, power goes from the ignition switch - car alarm - relay - solenoid. Theres power at the ignition switch, but not at the Relay. Is there something else, like a fusible link? How can i test the alarm? Its a vision CL2000

Does your car have smartock?

If yes it could be a dodgy BEM not recognising the codes from the ingnition barrel or being just plain broke!

You have not done any work to the car recently?

One way to check if your alarm is at fault , see if you have power at the inhibitor switch on the trany, if you do the alarm is fine, if not the alarm is at fault.

I had something similar in my XR8 the other day - although my car is a manual. I went to start it after driving and there was nothing, not even a kick over or that ticking sound when the battery is too f**k to turn the starter motor. I tried a couple of times and there was nothing. Good thing my car is manual so i thought f**k it, and just roll started it. When i got home i parked on a hill just in case it did it again but it started fine and have not had the problem since. Wierd!!
