How many speaker are in a mid-series sound system in an EL XR?
Im pretty sure its 4 (2 front, 2 back?), but just wanna make sure.

Also, what are the sizes of the speakers as i want to replace them with good quality aftermarket ones?

Cheers people!

6 Speakers? Cool.

Do the 2 dash tweeters & 2 front door speakers run through crossovers? If so, where are they located?

Cheers mate.

afaik, the door speakers run full range and the tweeters in the dash have an inline crossover somewhere in the wiring in the dash

Thanks mate.

I'll be able to replace the factory speakers in the front doors & parcel tray with 6.5" wont i? They should fit no worries hey?

If so, i might set up a set of decent 6.5" splits in the front. Sound alright?

Cheers.

Im open minded - Anything that is of high quality.
Something that would work well with my pioneer p1y head unit, no cheapie s**t though.

What would you recommend with a budget of about $300 to $400 just for the front 6.5" split set? And around $300ish for the rear parcel tray 6.5"?

Might be able to spend a little more on better quality speakers if need be...
So any recommendation would help greatly!

Thanks for your help buddy.

personally i see no reason to go overboard on rear fill unless you're not gonna be getting a sub sometime down the track, so i'd say $550-600 for fronts and $150 for rear fill

honestly, go out and demo various speakers, cos what sounds good to me might be pretty average to you, but heres what i reccomend:

Fronts: JL Audio VR-600 CSi 2-way splits $389
Rears: JL Audio TR-600 CXi 2-way coaxials $179

if you want to stay with Pioneer,

TS-C160R, ~$500 (IMO not as nice as the JL's)
TS-E1695 $219 (very nice.....)

but as i said, listen before you buy
