Almost time to do another service to my beast, only a minor, so just doing the engine (1992 windsor).

My question is.........what it the best oil to put in her. She has done almost 170k and uses maybe 1 litre per 10,000k's. She has lower oil pressure than I would like (sitting at about 1/2 way when cold with a few revs and at about the third yellow mark when cold idle. When warm sits at about the third yellow mark when with a few rev's and on the second yellow mark at idle). Anyway, it has a fairly standard shell oil in it (I didn't do the last service) and a motorcraft filter.

I would like to try to get better pressure when warm......will good oil achieve this....and if so what brand and type would be best for me?

Thanks,

Phil

Finished oil/filter change 10 minutes ago.Castrol GTX 2 and Ryco Z9 filter. That oil is a 20W/50. This Windsor has always been fed Castrol and doesn't use any oil so I keep it as is.

I had my oil changed during Christmas, my mechanic used 10W/40, this is beacuse the NL engines have hydraulic tappers in the motor and this oil helps the engine run better.

I'd suggest something like a 15W40.
Ford recomends that you run a 20W50 but personally, I think it's s**t.

The same engine in Mustangs requires a 10W30.

So anything between those two oils would be suitable. I think Valvoline makes a oil called Engine Armour which would be a good buy.

Oh and 5L sumps are awesome.. you only need one bottle :)

AU 4.0L came out with that spec too, but how long did that last  , might work in cold conditions but not good with Aussie heat.

Yeah but it is rare to get more than 5L into a 4.0L most of the time, just with 5.0L you didn't need to check
