ATM I run one 12" Xplod.
Now I was lsitening to a mix tape when al of a sudden I realised that there was no bass. Now I have checked everything I can think of (connections, power cables from battery, RCA outputs), so what could it be? It seems to be acting like a speaker and not a sub, so it moves a little which must mean the connections are still active. |

do you hae a continuity tester (like in a multimeter)
if so, whack it across the subs terminals with the amp connected and see if the voice coil is still good small movement? how much? like, can you see the cone physically moving a few mm, or does it just look like it's trembling? if its the latter, it could just be the sub moving with the sound waves from other speakers what amp do you have?

Maybe the crossover on the amp and been accidentaly knocked or flicked and changed?

Nope checked it all, even changed from channel 1/2 to 3/4 and nothing. the amp is getting power and the sub isnt moving. its a usaudio amp i think.
i have a 10" boss sub in my room wondring if it hook it up how could i tell where the problem is? |

Try pushing slightly on the cone and see if you get anything than, if you do... voice coil is stuffed.

hook up the other sub, if it works, your sony is f**k..... if not, your amp is f**k

to check the driver/sub get a AA battery and touch it on the speaker terminals, if the sub is ok it will click and cone will push in or out. thats a simple test if you dont have an ohm meter. its also handy to find what cables run what speakers.

that is one handy tip but does it work on speakers as well or will it damage them |

The battery trick is a good test, just dont hold it on for too long. Just enough to test it and thats it. The speakers will be fine if you only just touch them. The longer you old it the voice coil gets hotter and hotter until something burns.
The voice coil could be stuffed, the amp could have burnt out its cross overs and your headunit could be sending the wrong signals down your rca's. I dont know how you have wired up your system so i'm not sure which one it is. Cheers

if you noticed i said to use a AA battery or 1.5 volt, the bettery hasnt all that many amps/volts and will more than likely go flat before any damage is done! but ur doing a static test on the driver so holding it on for a long period of time isnt needed. just dont use the 12v from the car for this test as the driver will die!

I know what you said.
Some people like to hold things on for 2 long. That 12"xplod will die quickly its voice coil gets hot. Me and a mate blew one up in an hour running off an audioline 2x200 watt amp. Sub wasn't distorting it just got hot. This thing was an 800 watt peak running bridged off the amp which runs 400watt peak. The magnet was that hot you couldn't touch it. Slightly different to a 1.5 volt battery but i'm being over cautious. Cheers

Maybe thats it Pane the sub jsut overheated and died....oh well i will jsut leave it there until i get another 12"....damn it I like that bass too.

if there is no musik from the subs, and you have checked everything make sure that the wires inside the box(assuming boxed) are soldered on properly, ie the sub terminals and the box terminals. also if possible whack another speaker onto the amp o test each channel, and as mentioned you can check with a battery as well (also good for tesing + and - wires for speaker
 ). Also when you take the sub out of its box, check the coil u'll be able to smell/see if she is cooked, Then buy a new sub for da box

one good thing with anologue multi meters is that you can use the ohms X1 to test speakers as they put out a very small voltage that will also give a click sound when attatched to the speaker. This test cannot be done on digital meters.
