G'day

Two questions,
The first, can you get pads that dont make much dust on your wheels?

The second, I would like to know what falcons (pre au) had 17" mags, i'm doing a brake upgrade and the smallest set of wheels i can run are 17's. I need to buy some cheap wheels to use as stockies, falcons dont come with stock 17" wheels do they?

I have got bendix advance pads, bugger all dust, no falcons came with 17s,pre AU, maybe a few like GT, but not cooking models.

One of the "Special Edition" BA Falcon packages, the SR I think, had 17" alloy wheels on it I believe. Fitting them to anything but a BA/AU will probably take some doing though as the offset is different.

As for brake dust, Armor All Alloy Wheel Cleaner is absolutely brilliant to shifting it I've found. I've used it a couple of times on my Fairmont and they come up looking like new. Just spray it on, give it a scrub (it says spray on, rinse off on the bottle but that's BS, especially if you have 6 months of accumulated crap on the wheels like I did the first time) and rinse off.

bendix advance are good but bendix performance are a better pad for heaving braking with alot more dust.

Dunno about pads, but for the wheel you can get some BA 17" XR copies for around the $1300 mark with new tread. You can probably get the AU copies and stuff aswell for around that price.

These copies will fit your offset, and are cheap. And would look nice too.

There is also the ANZ FTR copies, which can be 17".

I have just replaced all four pads on my EL.
I found the rears still had the original factory pads on it with only a matchstick's width of pad left on them. The fronts I replaced with EBC Greenstuff pads and decided that I should machine the front discs at the same time. I am currently in the process of bedding in the new pads properly by taking it easy on them for at least 300 kms which was the advice given to me from both Cam at Hightek Brakes ( FM sponser ) and the information pamphlett in the EBC packaging.

use genuine wheels they are stronger and you wont have to much trouble replacing one if you damage it.
might cost a bit more because you will need to allow about $300 for adaptors.

Ive got chrome wheels, so scrubbings not an option. How much are these bendix pads you guys talk of?

As for the wheels, sounds like this is gona be expensive. I can get my hands on ba xr6 17's, but what about these adapters.
How do they work, dont the studs have to be longer! Arn't they illegal, the cars allready cop bait and so far ive illuded being yellow stickered but with adapters i cant talk my way out of it.

From memory I paid about $55 for some Bendix Advances from Repco.

Also can anyone tell me why, even with new brake pads, that I still get a bit of a squeal out of my rear brake pads when braking.
It doesnt happen all the time, and I know the brake pads are fine, its just more of a personal annoyance than anything really - anyone got any ideas?
