erasing memory codes

if i perform this test on my el ghia, could this harm it in any way. eg: will it run rough or will it start fine? what is the benifit of erasing these codes

Your talking about erasing error codes, erasing these codes will not effect how your car runs. The benefit of erasing them is if any of them are still active they will return imediately showing you where any faults are.

Where is ground in the Diagnostic Connector?
There is a doco here but it only points to an airbag connector.
