I was just wondering which of the aussie spec EFI windsors had roller camshafts. Someone had told me that all the aussie windsors had roller cams but someone else said that it was only the EL to AU windsors that had them.

It doesn't really add up when you see some of the prices that some wreckers charge for one of these engines.

Hay mate,

Think you'll find that all of the EFI Windsor 302s are roller cams. So you'd be looking at EB-AU.

EB-EL are pretty much the same (with exception of ED/EB/EL GT, EL XR8 2, and FBT). AUs got the explorer manifolds and GT40 heads.

What have you observed with the different prices?

Almost 2k price difference between EB and EF. Over 2.5k between EB and AU. Also flicking through Just parts a lot of the US improters only list the HO motors as having roller blocks and are charging almost 5k for a motor and box. What is the difference between a US HO windsor EFI and our Aussie windsors.

OK, that i dont understand... unless its a mileage issue... or if they are equipped with ECU/loom then EB has EEC-IV, EF has EEC-V (i'd go the EB loom so can fit a tweecerable ECU to it personally).

That makes a bit more sense... AU has much better heads/intake manifold.

Nothing. The Aussie EB-EL standard 5.0L is an HO windsor, only exceptions being the ones i mentioned above with explorer manifolds etc.

EDIT: hehe, if you want a laugh, phone your local ford dealer and get a quote on a replacement engine for an EL V8....

What would i be up for there? Over 10 grand or something. If I was to buy a windsor I reckon the EB would be the go.

$8k? pfft....

IIRC the 290kw engine (as a warranty replacement only) engine was $13k, but the funniest one was the turbodiesel I6 from the F-trucks...... $33k anyone?

And what about the explorer manifolds? I was always under the impression that they were originally used on the US ford Explorer and adopted onto our Windsors from 1998 onwards, but isn't the explorer engine a 4 litre V8? Or is the Explorer manifold just a name thrown up in the air.

US Explorers had the option of V8, just with the old Explorer design converting to RHD with a V8 was put into the too hard bin.
