good job keep it up. LOL, actually I have been giving some thought to a full EL K Frame and front suspension conversion. I like the EB front better than the EF/EL sheetmetal. BenJ

I did the EL K member change on my car, straight bolt up and the only thing you have to change is the suspension lower control arms. The inner bush is wider than the EA-ED one. Love the work you have done to her. Be proud, all your own work and with a good budget. Q? Who is the car insured with? If it is not Shannons, take a cruise across to Nth Sydney and get a quote. Also mention that you have the wife's car to insure as well. Reason I say this is I took my boxcar across, got it insured for $12.5k, plus my wifes EA mont (stock as a rock), for the same price as it was costing for her car with the NRMA. Chris P.S. And I agree, if I was going to do a front sheet metal conversion to an EA-ED, it'd be the NC front metal onto a wagon.

I'm kind of wondering about the fitment of AU gear myself, if it fits then it'd open a whole can of rim/brake possibilities.

The reasons I am considering it are, that the EL had the best steering and suspension geometery out of all the E Series, and the lower control arm bush is about 4 times bigger than the EA-ED. Also with the EL engine already in the car it just sort makes sense. However there are a lot of things to consider, such as Steering rack fitment and then needing EL engine mounts.
Re the AU setup, this has been done, but is NOT a bolt in or easy modification to make it fit. This in my opinion is not within the realms of DIY at home. As I understand it you need to cut and shut the front chassis rails. BenJ

Ironically, thats exactly what I plan to do.. EL everything... I have not put my supercharged engine in my beast yet, but when I do.. I'll be doing the entire front end.. all undercarriage and possibly the steering column as well if I have to, but I think I won't have to.
My plan is to eventually have an EL XR6 nose on it and possibly an EL rear bumper as well so the lines match up.. I love the EA-ED rear end, but think the EL XR has it at the front. I'm doing the front suspension for the same reason you are, its a better basis to work from. |

if by the sound of it frankieh your looking at doing eveything at the same time....... its gonna be 5 years before we see this EL motor in your car

i got some questions on that subject for you.. i put EL front shocks in my lane yesterday and there are a few differences, the lower control arm is thinner where the shock meets, the swaybar will need to be changed as the bar with the bushes are thicker and dont fit (cry i needed to replace mine) but nothing major.
ok the question is, how do i fit the EL swaybar bushes to my NC without the lower control arm swap? or am i just better off buying new bushes? |

FordFairmont, It should be easy to do it all at once..
When the motor is ready.. I go to a mates with a trailer and pick up an EL front end... take a week off works and bolt the whole lot in, in one hit.. I'm doing all the other stuff like wiring and putting in a clutch pedal first in preparation.. when it's all done, the main work should go pretty quickly. The EL front end and rad support will probably not happen at the same time though.. That can wait till later. |
