Body Kit Progress

What a beautiful day we had here in Sydney.

Just the right sort of day to create some artificial snow.

Image

Well, maybe not LOL.

After playing Taxi for my wife and daughter I swapped the XB bonnet on to the wagon and headed off to SWC's secret workshop.

SWC ground a bit more out of the offending areas on the bonnet, hence the snow, and then used fibreglass bodyfiller to fill the cavities. Normal bog just wasn't going to cut it.

Image

Once set the bonnet was attacked with a belt sander to knock the glass filler into the basic desired shape. Boy do you loose a lot of material.

Image

A quick wash off to see what I have to work with.

Image

I think I can make something of that.

EB GT Flares and BA XR Bar

While the fibreglass bog was setting SWC and I tackled a couple of other projects.

SWC was kind enough to repair a couple of cracks in the front Flares, and then after some discussion, filled in the indicator recess with fibreglass. I decided against recessing the indicator lense as there wasn't really enough material in the Flares and there was little room behind the Flare to add extra glass. The main reason was that the right indicator bulb holder was fouling on the Vac Tank if you tried to move it closer to the guard.

I started sanding the BA XR bar. The EB top has gone powdery like a few of them do, and this crap had to go. The BA XR bar is now home and once again, I thank SWC for all his hard work and assistance.

Cheers
BenJ

fiberglass sucks for itching. but damn its looking good. i love the fact you both didnt settle on the finish of the bonnet before. i didnt see much wrong with it but the fact you both push for perfection is awesome.

Bodykit Progress

I got a fair bit done today.

I slapped on a couple of layers of bog onto the BA XR bar, and sanded it.

Image

Image

Sanded.

Image

The BA XR bar is not far off being ready for primer. The levels and transitions between the BA and EB bars are pretty good and I really need it all in one colour to see the areas that will need attention. SWC has done a really nice job. He even installed filler pieces under the number plate area and the trailing edge of the wheel arches.

Also applied some bog to the front flares and sanded them.

Image

Sanded.

Image

I got a bit carried away with the sander and seem to have blurred out the moulded lines. I think I will just fill them all in as I was not fussed with them anyway.

Now the indicator recesses are filled, I also will consider lowering the indicator to line up with the chrome strip.

The bonnet only got a small amount of attention with a quick sand.

Image

Cheers
BenJ

The grill & lights from a XR would look great in that bar on the front of your wagon! Do it!

Cheers

I must admit... I get a little hard every time I see that bonnet. :-)

In my mind the XB/XC coupe is still the hottest looking car Australia ever produced and the bonnet is one of the reasons why.
