I untied our 3 when I got home, have to leave a little more water next time [now that it's getting warmer]. Don't use nylon rope though, it stretches in the heat.
Thanks for the compliment re the Futura, we'll be sad to part with such a great 'Wednesday' car but the factory T5 ED wagon is the wife's pick, purely for practicality. As soon as the EL engine goes in it, we'll be joining the wagoneers, the other challenge will be to get my EB2 Fairmont auto sedan running as well as Ben's red car did with its EL engine.
The fact that we loaded so much booty into Ben's wagon with room to spare wasn't lost on me either. LOL
Mick, it was honors even at the playroom with BenJ spotting some very nice items very early but I came home with a late burst and bargains were had by all.
Ben was even the cause of us finding the wheels, if he hadn't dropped a ratchet which we returned to find we would have missed them. They wheeled them in and we wheeled them out, very quickly.
Ben's wagon is coming along very nicely and will be a remarkable transformation of a 'cheapie' very soon, a 'sleeper' with style.
Ben and family, as always, I had a great time and really appreciated the company and assistance in fitting that water pump. You both made that long trip very enjoyable, although I may remind you BenJ that you now own a T5 yourself and I do like to drive my own car now and again, no matter how many nice things you say about it.
If Mick and RD are going to join you AND SNAP on a hunting trip, I'll have to come down too, if only as the kindly grandfather figure to keep you rogues under some control!!
Hope Troyman doesn't get wind of this, I'll have to get there the day before to have any hope against you lot and him too!
Congratulations on a well planned resto/mod of the wagon, it's good to drive now so I'm really looking forward to the next big transplant and upgrades.

Not that BenJ needs any reminding, he was there when we bought it, this is the ED T5 wagon we're about to start modding.

Man, wish I was in Aussie. A place where you can buy full exhausts affordably... A place where you can get decent mags at a pick-a-part operation... A place where the dollar isn't going backwards...

But, most importantly, a place that gives you $$$ to convert your own car to LPG.

Is the Pic n Pay wreckers the big one out near Blacktown? I used to stop in there on my way back from Orange. It had little turnstiles there like in a supermarket but you had to put the coin in to get through? All the e series falcons etc from memory were about half way down on the left??

Hello Once More.

I got bored last night and as there was a nice cool breeze I decided to install the Cargo Roof Lining. So it is in, but, still no pics.

More importantly I have rectified the braking issues with the wagon. At any speed under brakes, the steering wheel would shake strongly, and I doubt any sort of emergency braking would have ended well.

I purchased off Ebay some Front Slotted Rotors for EF/EL. They are ADB brand and came with free brake pads. For those of you looking for a budget option for your daily driver, these seem to be a real good solution. At $115 for the pair, they are certainly better than standard replacements. And of course while I was at it I also purchased some new wheel bearings, as I have no idea of the age or condition of the current ones.

Here are some pics of the conversion.

Rotors removed and stub axle cleaned.



New wheel bearings packed with wheel bearing grease.



New rotors have a thin film of protective oil on them, so I cleaned them with some brake cleaner. I also cleaned the hub cap, split pin, washer, nut and cage. Then I applied a liberal amount of grease to the stub axle and inner hub, tapped in the rear hub seal, and installed the rotor.

Here is a pic of the box. They also do standard, and drilled / slotted rotors, for front and rear.

So far the new brakes are a vast improvement. I will report on how they fare over time.

those new rotors look hell sexy ben. i think i might invest in a set or 2...

i currently have the DBA kangaroo paw standard rotors and they started warping within 6 months. i expected alot longer life out of them then 6 months

dont mean to steal your thread at all, but huggie, i have DBA slotted rotors in mine and they started to get the shudder within about 6 months as well. turned out it was the Bendix Advance pads that i had in there. i can email you my correspondence with DBA about it if you like

i had the discs ground back and replaced the pads with something different (cant remember which ones off the top of my head) and havent had a problem in 12 months *touches wood*

OK, new update.

It was Christmas day, and the Wife is away, so what does any funloving Ford Modder do? Go outside and Play.

Yep, the weather was overcast Christmas Morning here in Sydney, but cleared up nicely by midday ish.

The Tailgate Garnish had been bugging as it was cracked badly, as can be seen in the below pic. And it looked pretty awful too.



So while at the wreckers I purchased a replacement Garnish in good condition.



While this one was not cracked, it still didn't look that great. So a few hours later, after some sanding, plastic primer, followed by multiple coats of Satin Black, the Wagon looked like this.

Much better!! A hint for you wagon owners, the EA-ED Rear Garnish has Smoke coloured lenses, and the EF-EL Garnish has White Clear lenses.



Now, there was one other part that I had removed shortly after taking ownership of the Wagon, and that was the EB1 Wiper Cowl. I had tried to fit the EB11 style Cowl, but there is now way that was going to happen. They are very different.

So while I had the paint etc out, I also hit the Cowl with the Satin Black.

As you can see the colour had faded quite badly, and now after the paint the Cowl blends in well.


Oh, I also have started stripping the EL Interior out of the Red Car, so watch this space for more updates.
