Sigh...

My Transmission is dead!!! I have no second gear now so I've asked mr Steve to source me a T5 kit and a replacement 3.45 lsd diff too so I can continue getting the drive train ready..

Thie diff in the car looks to be from an EF and I'm guessing thats due to someone selling the EL ghia job that was in there like nearly everything else in there...

Oh well, it's all back now or will be soon. The speed sensitive steering wasn't plugged in and when I put new tie rod ends in I found the plug down there and rectified that so now I weave all over the road trying to get used to it. :-)

When I pull the engine out to put the box in.. the supercharger goes in when the engine goes back in.

I'm gonna use my good spare EL motor to build a worked job in the shed so when I kill my current engine I'll have a really solid replacement.

Just thought I'd put up some photos of the car as it is now.. the sun just came out for the first time so figured it'd be a good idea to grab the camera.

Thinking I really like the new blue mazda colour of the 09 mazda 3 and 6... might choose that over shockwave just for something different...

Raining every weekend here so I've not got to do anything big lately... but working on my front bar now.

Rough shape emerging.
Image

I created a problem for myself in my choice of where I cut the BA bar... but it looks better this way (which the lip tapering inwards at the point of joining the EL bar.) and I fixed the problem by building up the inside join edge with fg putty and glass.
Image

Here you can see the fibreglassing on the inside of the bar.
Image

This last one shows how I chopped useful bits like the metal ends that go into the fr guards out of the a gli bar and put them on this one.. also shows where an entire bottle of polyurethane adhesive and 300ml of fiberglass resin went.. :-) It's not finished yet, but already very very strong.

D@mn slow progress.. but getting there.

Don't know how the guys on here get it done so fast.. I get enough time to spend 2 hours at most on mine a week... usually less so it's taking ages.

It is starting to look the part now though... I've got some tuning to do on the side bolts that hold it near the indicators.. and have to trip off the overlap near the wheels, but from then on it's all tidy and get it ready for paint... can't wait to finish this and get it on the car....

so far total cost is less than 400 including headlights (which as you can see are not in yet)
It's great having a spare EL in the shed for trial fittings.. saving me heaps of time.

Decided my brakes needed some work..

picked up some disks and some really full on pads... I know they were full on, because they said so on the box.:

Image

Did the bearings and seal while I was there also... end result looked abit like this:

Image

and this:

Image

I took a photo with the wheel on.. but you can't really see the disk in it..

Image

more to do with the lighting an autofocus because in real life they stand out abit....

I'm happy with a total spend of less than 200 bucks for all that... amazing how cheap you can get this stuff for if you shop smart...

It all works great.. however, the brake pedal jumps up and down just as your pulling to a stop. (even slowly with no lockup) I'm thinking I need to disconnect the battery to let the system reset???? or do the abs wheel sensors need to be adjusted to suit the new disks?

cheers

Frank

nice work frankieh, good to see your 'hands on' with every bit of work with the car rather than paying someone else to do it for you like i sometimes do

Nah... I'm a notorious cheapskate.. normally won't pay anyone to do something I can do myself...

The disks cost me 120 for the pair on ebay.. (two big car places went into liquidation here and their stuff was auctioned off cheap.. I suspect this guy was one of the winners and now he's selling them cheap on ebay)

anyway, 120 for the rotors, 51 for the wheel bearings and seals (repco) and the pads came with a big box of falcon bits I got for 20 bucks ages ago.....

brakes feel much more certain now... and they work from cold.. my old ones took a while to warm up before they'd work worth a d@mn..... this is much better....

I think the ABS is trying to tell me something though as it judders the pedal on me just before the car fully stops..... gonna try disconnecting the battery tonight.,,,

alarm is good.. I didn't fully integrate it into the car as I'll be changing the dash and harness to one less hacked up soon.. but I hooked it in without butching the alarm wiring and it works great.. have not done the CL yet though.. at worst I'll need an interface module but I don't think so...

There are still lots of them around.

I have a T5!!!! finally...

It's done 160k, so not too bad.... and came with two clutches and absolutely everything needed to bolt it in... stoked... thank you Mr Steve.

Now I have pretty much all of the bits I need to get this show rolling...

I have my EL XR head to fix up..... and while putting it on I'm going to do the chain and guides/tensioner and some gaskets while I've got it all out..then the whole thing goes in the car...

can't wait.

I have to do the wifes hilux timing belt and stuff,,, but after that, it's all ford all the way.
