Another update on the car too,
I attemped a 600km round trip this last weekend.
Results are as follows:
Overheated massively 10 times on the first trip, about 5 on the way back (shoving it in neutral on hills cools it down really quick)
Developed a real loud squeel when stabbing the throttle (could be alternator out of alignment)
Used about $160 worth of fuel.

have you got a thermostat fitted, how many blades on the fan.may have to fit a plastic shroud to help the fan pull air thru.strange to over heat after cleaning the radiator, any fins left on the pump?

Yep, 180F thermostat, been in for <1000km.
5 or 6 blade mechanical fan
Thermofan blows a gale through
Pump is working pretty well by the looks of the coolant in the rad moving around.

Timing and carb are both spot on.

Also, an oil change.

so a few lube jobs, cars are cheaper and less hassels.hope you find the overheating problem, pita makes the car no fun to drive.

Yes it was getting annoying.
Strangest thing is you can fang it hard around town and no overheating issues or none the thermo wont fix in a couple of minutes. Contrant 2700-2800rpm highway though overheats all the time.
I dunno about cars being cheaper. Ive blown more than that on this car in a week but then it usually goes for longer than I do before stuffing up.

check the thermostat, with all the cooking it mght be stuck open.even new ones can be stuffed.test it in hot water.

After owning a few ol' school Windsors I'd recommend the coolest thermostat you can get!

Well, I got around to changing the oil today. Got about double the oil pressure as before using the same weight as before. Think it mighta been pretty flogged. Didnt get around to thermostat, will eventually. In the meantime if it starts to get over about 190F I'll just chuck it in neutral and wait for it to cool down as its only doing it on long (half hour or more) highway runs.

that overheating issue is odd. ive got a small windsor aswell and coupled with a 6 cyl XY radiator and a standard 5 blade fan it hardly gets past 2/5 on the guage and ive also got a autometer temp guage and it tells the same story with it barely registering on the dial. hope you sort it out. it would make it much more fun to drive.
