That's a pitty the head gaskit went dude. It's not worth it to rebuild the EA's engine is it? To keep the numbers matching, if the still do?

Or will you keep the engine if it's original & rebuild it one day when more funds are around?

Cheers

Yes, all very good arguments in the chasing of performance & reliability, but what about originality? Does it matter to you, ie keeping the value of the car up due to matching numbers? If not, keep the original bottom end incase you ever sell the car, then it can be sold as a matching numbers car if your bottom end is the original one, even if it's not in the car at the time of sale. ;)

I didn't realize the AU had a factory stud girdle. I know about the extra 12kw & the higher rpm ceiling.

Cheers

my understanding was EL Hybrid and AU's had stud girdles.

finally got my tax so this thing will do more than sit there and look pretty (well it's pretty dirty now). went to Bursons yesterday and spent $150 on bits to replace in the front end. Balljoints, tie rod ends, sway bar bushes etc. i'm going to look at a 70,000k AU motor this Sunday, i can get it for $350!

then once that is all done and it's driveable i'll take it back out to the spray painters, get the old shagged windscreen removed, get him to fix the small amount of rust above the windscreen and then get a brand new screen put in it. then it's ready for roady.

now how do you think i'll go at VicRoads registering it with a new engine? as long as i have a receipt i'll be fine right?

If you are keeping the factory manifolds, using a dizzy & the factory ecu, they shouldn't have any issues with the AU motor, aside a simple change of vehicle details form with the new engine number. Just show your receipt.

Glad to hear some progress is being made!

Cheers

the only problem with keeping the ea ecu and intake manifold with an au engine is, you wont get the higher rev limit and wont get the extra kw the au engine has over the ea engine,
also loosing the originality of the matching numbers? but to some, incuding me, it means nothing,

you will however find the engine will be heaps smoother and yea a better base for mods..

but a simple J3 chip with a tune to suit (even a tickford tune if you wish) will give you the missing power

Good points to you both, Troyman & huggiebear.

I guess it really depends on how far Wildeb wants to take the engine swap?

Cheers

well i thought AU motor with original intake and computer. do EA's have a rev limiter? my EB doesn't but it is on gas.

it'll accelerate a s**t load quicker than a 3.9 and be smoother

the ea,eb and ed rev limiter is 5400 rpm and ef- au is 5750rpm.. not a huge difference!

actually its the ea that has the larger intake pipe! , the eb/ed has a narrow bellmouth in the rubber tube where it goes to the airbox...
