About the closest thing i own that grinds is a Dremel. I can hardly get my hand up where the bracket is let alone an angle grinder, some how though i can imagine fiend up there grinding anything that the thing can get to lol. I started sawing it, but gave up and moved onto putting the box in with the help of mechanic dad, woo hoo box in. Now i just have to seal up the floor using some dyna mat and rubber and connect the hand brake back up and we're sweet. Get the drive shaft shortened next week and hopefully when i turn the Key, the ECU that came with the box isn't bust and she fires into life!! wishful thinking yes, but on the plus side, if she don't work, J3 chip here i come.

Hey --- You'll be able to release your gearbox mounts and have the gearbox hold itself up too...

There's good and bad points about that mind you..! Good point is that you should be able to undo the four bolts that hold it to the bellhousing and pull the motor straight out the front. Bad point is that if you ever do use that technique you'll probably stuff something.

Uhm. How about a good point being that you can hang the box there and it won't hit on the floor so you can still push the car around whilst it has no engine in it?

My gawd, I'm stretching it...

Honestly, there's not a lot of good reasons huh?!!!

Is anyone going to ever see that Ford oval on the billet shifter plate? Going to put a little transparent window in there or something?...

Never mind me...


Doesn't the LTD have a hole through the firewall where the clutch cable goes? Wow... Shows you what I know.!.

Lol i have absolutely no idea what you are talking about there Fiendy friend, but that's ok. Yes the LTD does have the hole for the clutch cable, but on the inside of the firewall, there is a bracket welded to the pedal box which is used to hold up the auto computer, this bracket is blocking the pathway for the clutch cable, so i have to cut the bastard off

The shifter will stop you from removing the gearbox.


Regarding the angle grinder situation...
Did you not notice that me and BENZ had the dash out and back in one lazy afternoon while Benz tried to prove he could work and drink at the same time......?

Get rid of the dash...! Chop the s**t outa the silly computer mount and bobs your uncle.

Pulling a dash out and in is easier than half the s**t you've been doing!!!!

Hey--- Does anyone want one of those old STAR TREK digital clusters from an LTD like yours? There's one still on that LTD out Pick-A-Part (which, by the way, HAS A TOW BALL!)

Yeah i put the top half of the shifter on once the box was in the car, when it went in it was just the bare black bottom half, then i bolted the rest of the shifter back on. Box is in there for good now, so dont need to take it out

I'm really not too keen on pulling that dash out, i dunno what Benz's dash looked like but this is seriously messy, massive channels of wires, random metal brackets etc everywhere, i think i will just lie down and put my earphones in and start sawing again tomorrow. I took the drivers seat out which was easy for doing the pedals, just lay down on my back and made it much easier.

Made by Eickhorn in Solingen, the KM3000 has a black coated, Bohler N695 stainless steel, spear point blade. The handle is fiberglass reinforced Polyamid with a finger guard. It is supplied with a plastic and Nylon sheath with MOLLE attachement system.

Blade Length ---- 175mm (7in)
Blade Material ---- Bohler N695 stainless steel
Handle Material ---- Fiberglass reinforced Polyamid
Overall Length ---- 350mm (12in)
Rockwell Hardness ---- 57
Weight ---- 565 g with sheath

Bloody hell - That's over half a KG with sheath, guess you're not worried about a burglar alarm now....

Come to think of it - The design of this sort of knife hasn't changed much since 1930 or so... I once had a Hitler youth knife before it was stolen... Along with some swords and what have you... Cars are heaps harder to flog off a display wall than an expensive wall full of swords...

Where does the clutch spring mount to? I've found a couple of spots, but they are either ages away or make s**t loads of noise when you push the pedal in....... Made my Floor gasket today, what a PITA! can't sit right because of the sloping ness of the floor etc, getting there....slowly

Make your own mounting for wherever you want the spring to go mate! Easy! Suggest somewhere which stops it from flicking up under the dash if your foot slips off the clutch. Makes it complicated to drive when you can't find your clutch pedal because it's stuck under the dash someplace....

How much tension do you need to put the spring under though? As when you adjust the clutch won't it move to wherever you want? I had it sitting stretched to the max so the pedal was right on the stops, but when i adjust the clutch it will go down..... dunno if it's meant to be that stretched out though.

And who says you need a grinder? f**k ya grinder, you need a massive pair of tin snips that look like they would take you leg off..... see below pic. Went and bought a hot water bottle, cut it up and tried to use that for a floor boot, but it's a bit tough, so i then went and bought a silicone baking tray from the Whare which i will cut up to suit when i get home from work tomorrow... hopefully, it's meant to snow bugger it, i need a massive shed.

Oh - I have a pair of large tungsten tin snips too, didn't I mention that?! And two sets of bolts cutters that stand as tall as my missus... Good work though cuz bro, you got it out. Congratulations!

The spring should (apparently) be just enough to keep the throwout bearing against the clutch. I thought most manufacturers warned against this, but on my thread I was told this was the idea for these cars as "the throwout bearing is in constant contact". It wouldn't be in constant contact if that spring was loose / slack.

Good thinking on the silicon baking tray thing.

If you're nice and careful with it you could cut out one of these... (Don't tell anyone though, as I do have quite a few of these perfectly laser computer cut ones to sell... And I don't want everyone racing off to the Whare and buying bloody silicon baking trays and sharp knives!)
