how hard was it to do?

Very easy actually except for me losing the Lifter :(

just fiddly and you will need a ratchet ring spanner to do the back bolts for the inlet manifold on ya EF

do u know what size so i can buy just that one instead of a whole set,

brad.

For clarification, we think the lifter might have fallen into the engine at the point of one of these two arrows (I think the top one is where the hole is, I'm not totally sure)...

Weird thing is, George is certain it came from the rocker on the opposite side of the camshaft to the hole....

What did you end up doing with the head you got before you fitted it? Did it check out all good?

Good to see it fitted up though

NO Ash, had to have it worked on again before we could fit it. It had 6 stuffed exhaust valve guides, needed shaving again and was putrid inside. Total cost of the head, $150.00 to buy and $300.00 to get it FIXED = $450.00. We could have bought a reasonable S/H AU motor, gotten an EL Fairmont ECU and would have been better off.
Next time we will be more careful when buying from people on here we don't know or anywhere else for that matter. Lies really kill a persons trust. :(

dropping thing like that can be a pita for sure like when we rebuilt a mini engine put it all back in only to hae the shaft from the bottom of the dizzy fall off inside the mongrel - not fun spent about 5-6 hours trying to get it to no avail only to have to pull the buggar out and remove gearbox then refit again

For those who were curious, it appears the lifter fell into the catalytic converter. It was taken off today and we heard it rattling around inside it. :-D Bullet dodged. :D

I think I have more chance of pushing diarrhoea up a hill with a stick. LOL.

Or to quote George: "Somehow, I don't think so".

If its back together in time though, it'll definitely be there the Friday after though. :-D

Good to see the head is all fitted up, i remember George telling me about it a while ago. Shame to hear about the head not being in the condition the guy said it would be in though, those situations are very annoying. Good thing you guys got things checked before bolting it on hey.

Nice pick up with the wheel too. Should be a very nice replacement for the stock one

Feels like a step back was taken today though. LOL.
When we got home from work today, George and I attacked the heater core problem. Took about 45 minutes to get the dash out, then another half an hour at least to get the heater box out. Before anyone mentions the nuts in the engine bay, they had been removed right after the head was taken off; the box was simply jammed in place. When it was finally removed and opened, the thin had leaves and s**t everywhere in it. Thought the whole carpet was going to be covered LOL.

After some grumbling from George about it not being a simple job, some of it really quite frustrated, my car is now without a dashboard, console, heater box or shifter knob. No, none of them are broken, but there was no way they were going to be put back in this evening. George is cranky because the whole job is taking longer than he thought it would, and he seems to think that since he promised that it wouldn't take this long, that he's letting me down somehow by not having it done yet. I'm not the least bit disappointed, at least I'm not left holding a workshop manual and having no idea where to start... That'll be for when I change the carpet and put the EL console in hehehe.

Anyway, thats where it all at as of 7:30 this evening. I don't expect any work to be done on this before the weekend now, a break is needed before car parts get broken. :)

dont go EL console, they look butt ugly with the ea-ed dash. you could however just throw an el dash in while its all apart

You're right, it is butt ugly. If there was such a thing as an ED console which had beverage holders in it, I would pay through the nose for it. However, such a console doesn't exist, and I can't afford all the bits and bobs that go with the dash change, so for now at least, it will have to be ED dash with EL console.. I've no doubt I'll get sick of the bits jutting out and will probably investigate doing the swap when I can afford it though. :-D
