After a couple of weeks of driving the car with the auto ECU and the resistor trick......Its not really behaving itself...so today I fitted the ED manual ECU, adjusted the timing, stiffened up the rear exhaust mount.....now to see how that goes now.

Just had a read through this thread. I love the amount of effort you've put into every little task, no matter how minor it is. Cleaning and painting everything before putting it back together.
Love the work. Hope you get the computer issues sorted.

looking good, i have always loved white text on tyres.. i must be old skool lol
i too like the effort you put in, wish i had the know how to make some of those jigs.. beats the hell out of those dodgy supercheap ones that split sideways just as your about to pull the collets/retainers what ever that are called out |

Computer issues are sorted, and tomorrow she goes on the dyno for a run see where it is at, and make adjustments from there. The same set-up that was in the 88EA, now lives in the ED, except for the bottom end, original 4.0 ED. The EA made 186 rwhp...will be interesting, no rattles in the bottom end, no rattles in the top end.....might be good for 2 or 3 hp with out rattles......LOL

Took the ED to the dyno...got 193 rwhp. On the ol EA it made 186 rwhp at 173 kmh, the ED made 193 rwhp at 163 kmh. The emissions are on the rich side, so it is possible to crack 200 rwhp when I get it sorted.

A mate has 202rwhp from an AU engine, running a stand alone ECU....not sure which one he has...have to see him and ask....Its in a Jag/Daimler...was a V12 auto.

Was talking to the owner of the ignition company today about the ignition you bought. when that system is used on a V8 it is enough to run a blown alcohol 1600hp. That is some serious spark. While it's on the dyno, play around with plug gap. run the stock 1.0mm gap and then fit some AU plugs with the 1.3mm gap, then push that out to 1.5mm. I'll donate a set of JMM 'magical' plugs if you like. |

Thanks for that....I'm running an EA 3.9 head with the swirl ridge in place....so, unsure how it will go with later model plugs....will be interesting to see.

OK, the ICE ignition system is in and working. It is the 7100E module with the 4100 Lightning coil.
Currently have the EA to ED spec Denso plugs in with a gap of 1.1mm. I have fitted MSD Helicore HT leads ( make them yourself ). Set the base timing at 14* BTDC.....and fitted a new fuel filter. Just reving it stationary, has a lot more pick-up.....making the alt belt squeal...didn't do that prior to fitting the ignition system....  .I added an extra earth from the battery to the cylinder head. I mounted the module under the centre of the dash...out of the elements.....they are very small compared to the MSD 6AL. Now to take it for a drive.....  ........and to the dyno next week...hopefully.
