OK Figured out the HM Gem part
 - just need to know what stays on it to have it tanked.

Nah, none in Blacktown (well, according to their site anyway), Ingleburn is the closest; and thanks for the offer of dropping it in for me but I want to have the engine complete and back in by the end of the weekend. I'll just figure out how to make it "look" cleaner than it is. I really need my wagon back as I have something to add to it Oh, and would love to see a pic of your powdercoated rocker cover, may consider that one day for the wagon... Cheers RD

Bit more done today.
Cut out the worst piece of rust under the bonnet: (excuse the photo out of focus, but the idea is there ) Cut the same shape out of the spare EL:  ... giving me this rough shape to fit into the hole in the EF:  and after a little fitting, grinding etc I ended up with this, ready to weld on Saturday:  I also cleaned up the front support to a point where paint will be enough:  And finally, got all the lower seals etc all done, engine stripped to basic and painted ready for reassembly:  Inbetween all this, I refitted the diff to the EL wagon, jacked it up and removed the front handbrake mount for fitting/welding to my ED..... but that is another thread. More tomorrow, hopefully engine going back together and the BBM cleaned up a little. Off to SCA to buy some more paint for the rocker cover and the engine/body plastics. Cheers RD

Looking good matey.
You have cleaned every thing up great for the rust repair. Your nearly making my job too easy. Grab a can of No Name cooking spray oil when you at the shops. We will need it Saturday and I will most likely forget to grab it.

Oh, and I forgot about the lights...
Flashback to what they looked like when I got it....  After doing the sanding trick (600, 800, 1200, 2000 wet & dry) + Jiff (!!) + Brasso, I came up with these:   They didn't come up too bad even if I do say so myself

Primary goal is to get it blue slipped and rego'd to replace Rach's aging EB then, money permitting, the changes can begin

Cheers Daz Well, it looks like I will have to go down the tank dipping route anyway. Not only is this manifold butt ugly to look at, it is also caked with carbon internally. I haven't found anyone local that can do it sufficiently (only degreasing) so rang HM Gem in Ingleburn and they said "no probs, drop it in". So an added task for me is to strip the manifold and get it down to HM Gem for cleaning. Subsequently, engine will not be going back in this weekend. I have plenty of other stuff to do so no great loss, at least I won't have to do it later Oh, and now that the manifold is going to be tank dipped, any suggestions on cleaning the throttle body? Is it safe to remove all the electronic bits without damaging them? Cheers RD

Cheers RD With the throttle bodie i would just spent some time using carby cleaner a lint free rag and like a clean cloth to dry it off. with the sensors etc you can remove them but take note of how they come off .
