I would have been quite happy to use a steel one, and I had starting drawing up the sizes and angles for a steel one, but once the machine shop guys saw what I wanted, they went the CNC route. I'm not complaining. Plus it looks really trick! 8-)

Just in case anyone was interested, I thought I would put up some pics of the AVO Fairlane we have in the backyard. I cbf starting another topic.
Not much left of it now. We bought it smashed, it had a stock 3.9mpfi in it, no turbo gear at all. I scored the alloy airbox, and we recently sold the motor (a good runner) and auto (dead) and this is all that's left.

jeez shame about the lane, looks to far gone to save, but then again. maybe with a donor car, with a bit of chopping and welding.

Yeah, It is only "natural resources" now, unless someone REALLY wants an AVO 'lane..... :?
We have a couple of other 'lane/LTD shells in the yard, so it could be repaired, but at the end of the day, what would a non-turbo AVO fairlane be worth....
I think it will just be another cool wreck to have in the yard for a few more years. 8-)

OK, small update.
The other week when I was fitting the T5, My stepfather asked me if I had a K&N air filter for my ute. I said, "Nah, those things are way overpriced, even for me".
He laughed and handed me a very dirty K&N panel filter for my ute! How cool is that! 8-)
I tried it in my alloy air box, and it fits as well as the cheap a*** one I had in there, so bingo, I have a K&N panel filter for zero dollars.
After my week's R&R on the gold coast, I went back to work and found that we stock the K&N cleaning kits, so I grabbed one (less than $20) and this weekend I decided to use it. Here is a pic of the filter as it was being cleaned.

I finished cleaning the filter, then washed it with water, then let it dry in the sun. Once it was nice and dry, I sprayed it with the K&N oil, let it sit for the required 20 minutes, then fitted it to my airbox. While I had the lid off, I dug through my sticker collection and found a small K&N decal that (with a bit of trimming) fitted neatly over the old warning sticker on the airbox lid.

Looks tidy, and not too "ricey". I'll see if it goes any better on the way to work toomorow. 8-)

OK, small update.
I haven't really noticed much difference with the K&N filter. Maybe a bit better up high, over 4000 rpm, but I'm not too sure. At least it's clean, and I will never have to buy another air filter. 8-)

I took a load of rubbish to the tip yesterday, and as I was about to leave, I broke the drivers side outer door handle. Bugger! I called Ford this morning, a brand new handle cost me $26.85 all up. Better than a cheap chinese copy. I will fit it tonight and all will be well again. Until the next thing that goes wrong. 8-)

Cheers.

Update:
My Hurst shifter finally arrived this week. :D It is a Billet/Plus SST shifter, p/n 3915071.
Attachment:
Hurst Shifter.jpg

I also ordered a Hurst stick kit for a 88-93 Mustang, as it looked like a close fit of the ute.
Attachment:

Here are a couple of pics with it fitted.

I'm very happy with this shifter. It looks tough, and shifts very well. The shift length is very short and very positive, when compared to the OEM shifter I was using. I used the stick that came with the console piece, as it had two bends in it, and suited me better. The console piece wasnt an exact fit, but a bit of work with a dremel and it fits nicely. 8-) I originally used heavy duty double-sided tape to mount it, but that was wishful thinking. After a short drive, it broke loose, so I used four big self tappers and that stopped it moving. I know it looks a bit agricultural, but fvuk it, it'll do me for now.
Cheers, 8-)

The alloy airbox is from an AVO Turbo Fairlane. It is made of cast alloy. It is a bit bigger / deeper than the standard airbox, and uses the original lid and snorkel. The standard size air filter fits easily enough, and the EA intake tube is a perfect fit. I believe it would flow a lot more air than a standard airbox, which is probably why AVO went to the trouble of making it.
There are pics in this thread, and in my gallery.
They pop up on Evilbay now and then, and there was a couple for sale on here a while ago.
