Funny you should mention it, as it was inspected yesterday and i am now in a quandry. All the front suspension is rooted. The rear suspension is not much better.
On a good note, the ECU and T5 will work nicely in the ED, or may be coming up for sale at some stage soon.
So i need to decide weather to spend money fixing it, or recoup some of my dollars by parting it out.

Fix it mate.
Yeah the front suspension may be rooted but you will have the suspension fixed and as new for around the $600 mark. Apart from pressing a couple of bushes it can all be done in the driveway at home. The lower control arms which will need the bushes pressed can be got on an exchange basis anyway.
How many Km's has it done? It most likley has original suspension in it. Once you do it you will get another couple of hundred thou out of it.
What does it owe you? PM me if you like.
You cant lose on an old ute. A good tidy example with a fairly clean straight body holds it value , where the boxcars drop in value like a $5 whore drops their pants.
The suspension in an X series is an extremely simple exercise.

Even if you do the front end , throw a cheap and cheerful jam job on it and get it passed rego and sell it off for three or four grand.
Yeah I know its aslightly biased opinion cause I love my utes and X series cars but hang on to it dude.

What Matt said but..... depends on time available. Also ask yourself what the whole purpose of buying it in the first place was and then compare that with the work required. If you are after a daily and need it fairly quickly then that has a bigger impact on time/resources than a long term project car... and you already have one of those :)

Matt, if you aint busy, drop by on the weekend and have a look i will PM ya me address. I am really in 2 minds about it. It cost me 600, and i have spent 450 on panels and bits, but the gas system is rooted( pity as i would have thrown that in the ED).

RD, i have a daily, it is the ED. It needs a little work but nothing major. It has rego and i already have a project car.

What it really comes down to is i too love utes and have always wanted one, and thought with a little outlay i could fix it up/ throw rego at it and flog it of for 3k, but the parts bill alone for what needs doin is close to that.

But i still havent decided.

Hate it when the unknown happens in a project you had big plans for, makes decisions like this all that much harder. Good luck trying to get to an outcome.

Brett,
For what it's worth, I agree with both Matt and Bruce's thoughts.
As you've got a daily driver to use, jack the ute up and change all the suspension. It's not that difficult and you'll get years of use out of it,
If you avoid paying retail for all the bits [LOL] it's really cost effective to replace it yourself.
The only external suspension work I had done was getting the ball joints etc pressed and that cost me $20 a side.
I also hired a spring compressor [for the EB] when changing struts for $20, so all in all it wasn't a very costly job.
Our ED Futura and EB Fairmont are both [currently] getting the suspension and rod ends off the two EL Futura parts cars, so if an old crock like me can do it economically you can do it easily. LOL
We still miss our XC 351 ute, so wanting a ute [IMO] is good enough a reason to fix yours and enjoy it!

Well EVL is coming over this afternoon to have a looksee, but i have a feeling it will be parted out.
As it sits now i would be happy to let the ute go for 750, on the proviso i get the gas out of it. That would mean a tow truck to who wever takes it, or they take the ute complete and i organise to remove the gas at a later stage. What you would get is a EB-EL T5 and all the bits and peices to fit it to your sedan, and if you had a box car, then you get a manual ECU as well, which means the resistor trick is not needed.
Input/comments/takers???

Why now?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! :) Would love to take it off your hands but the dollars just aren't there at the moment.

Anyway, sorry to hear the ute is a no goer but it is better to find out now than part way through the build....
