The car is a STAT Writeoff, but don't for one minute think it cannot be repaired and reregistered. I am in very positive discussions with the RTA to have the status changed due to its limited build numbers and the actual damage to the vehicle. its not a structural loss, but a financial write off due the sheer cost of parts after the repairers price gouge the parts prices. No suprise and nothing new. With me in a position now to be able to supply all parts required, there will be no extorionary middle man markups, costs can be real world. The real world says I can get me car back on the road for a fraction of the cost the original repair bill came to.
Not to speak ill of any industry, everyone has to take their cut and make their business viable financially, But when these things get written off and the refuse to budge on pricing, nobody wins.

Yeah I do think they should have made more of an effort to try and preserve it, I was denied the opportunity to kick in some parts to try and reduce the overall cost, denied the opportunity to kick in extra cash to knock the bill under the required amount to have it repaired, denied a second independant quote, denied any right to negotiate and the final amount it was deamed a total loss was a couple of bills over 7.5k, like 200-300 over, anyhting under 7.5k would have seen it repaired.
None of these options were extended or even entertained when I offered, this is a massive fail from the insurer and assesor when it comes to keeping low production vehicles on the road.

You have to remember Ash that the classic / low volume vehicle owner is 10 times more critical than most car owners and 95% of panel shops won't touch a car if they think they have to put it on the chassis plant. If your car is adiquitly covered its better to let it go than mess about and get it repaired as it will never be the same again. Unfortunately we tend to bond with our cars and it's hard to let go of them.
I hate to say this but panel beaters want an easy fix and not a job that chellenges them as their customers expect 100% satisfaction and won't settle for anything less. Yet the insurance company is the one that controls the finances and makes the most from being the middleman for doing sweet F.A. You can't blame the repairer for trying to cover there a*** when all the liabity for the repair falls on them. |

Wow i musta been lucky with my bog stock falcon when i smashed it a few years ago, they had to put it up on the chassis rail machine to straighten it back out, never did find out what the repair bill was for it tho, that was with aami.

I know what you mean Ash but they all use the same underwriters and formulas to detemind the level of risk they carry. The fact they market themselves as a specialist insurer doesn't mean they assume a greater level of risk on a policy. If anything the classic / low volume vehicle owner takes less risk than the average car owner but because the perceived risk is higher than the actual risk an inflated premium is charged; thus allowing companies like Shannon's to get a decent segment of market when they offer no more coverage than the likes of AMI or State.

To quote the assesor verbatim :yeah I'm just not interested, the car is a write off, you buy it back for salvage but not to reregister" BS not reregister, being the type of car and the type of damaged sustained, with the RTA's approval, I can certainly get it reregistered.
