Hey guys.
Im looking to get into a project car. I was thinking along the lines of XF because they are $500. Im tring to get any ford or holden for free but havnt found anything. Can pick up anywhere in adelaide or hills. If its startable and drivable thats a bit better. But if anyone has anything sitting around they want to f**k off and dont want anything for it then send me a PM or sms/call to 0406962033

Why would you just go for anything?
Go for something that you really want, not because it's there or it's free. |

and X series falcon would be good because the parts are a dime a dozen and im sure you could pick one up very very cheaply. Look on ebay there is usually a couple $1NR auctions.

Well the car i always wanted to do up is a XA/XB but it has to have round lights. I hate those square ones.
There is a rolling chassis for a ford in vic i think (its on fordforums.com.au) but i cant get to it. But i seen a couple of XF's in SA for $500. But yeah im looking for a XA coupe. 
Im also thinking of rebuilding a v8 for it so id have to look into that.

XA/XB don't have square head lights, only XC came in both round and square.
Good luck in finding one of those without rust. If you can't find an XF for free i'd say there is something wrong. I'm not a fan of them though, give me XD anyday. |

I was in the same boat - wanted XA-XC but hard to find one that is not a rust bucket at a reasonable price. I ended up getting my XF project car for free.
As far as XD-XF, cheap and heaps around but most are starting to get rust issues. XE/F is better IMO as you get a coil spring rear end. Also depends where you want to go with it (V8/6, EFI/carby, etc). If you are going V8, start with an XE. If you are going to put a late model EFI 6 in (like me ), an EFI XF makes a good starting point. The front ends are easy enough to swap over so you dont necessarily have to start with the model you like the look.
I know of an EFI XF for $200. If you like I can see if I can find out more details.

They are valid points, but not a reason to not start a project. Afterall if everyone thought that way there would be no need for fordmods...
I think the key to making sure a project finishes is either have the money or the tools to get far enough into the project to keep your enthusiasm up. If you spend $200 on a project car then save $20 a week towards your $5000 paint & panel work quote its never going to get done. If you can buy a $200 wreck, a $300 gassless mig and a $200 air compressor and are prepared to put the hours in you have a much better chance. of getting something finished.

I'm just saying, because most of us have been there before. You're better off saving your money for other things, and getting stuck into a project a few years later. thats what my parents thought of my 5L, but its coming together now (after a LOT of $$$

it's not usually the money that's the problem, it's time. fair enough you need money to start off with, but be prepared to put in alot of hours if you plan on doing most of it yourself.
i've been there and done that with my xe, i did an esp a couple of years back, an xf, and a mini. all were very time consuming. good luck in your decision.

Wellim tring to get dad in that way i get it financed a bit better. I have a welder (not sure of the type) and i have a mate that builds truck bodys so hes got the know how and the tools.
I have the tools and the aircompressor. I plan on spraying it myself. Advice will come from local people that have rebuilt a couple of XF's in their time. I also used to work at a wrecker and my old boss there is always happy to help me out with use of thngs like tools, and parts they he will happily donate. Im also going down there to see what he has to offer because he quite offen gets things like XF's and VK's for free or $100. So i may be able to get one off him. He also have alot of V8 blocks and heads that i could score because he will never use them because the fact that he has 8 HJ's sittin in the back shed.

Well i talked to dad about the whole idea. He said he wants in. But nothing like an XF. Has to be older like 60's or 70's. He is a holden nut so he wants a torry but im like lets get a ford.
So if anyone knows of a torry around the joint ill probably take it. Gonna hit some holden fag forums.
