Might have just got my hands on a xr6 reg for $20, are they interchangeable without removing the fuel rail? put that with my Au injectors and get the J3 or is it worth buying Xr6 injectors that were cleaned 50k ago?

Regards.

stock AU injectors will be big enough for what you need.

you can change the fuel reg without removing the fuel rail but it can be a pain as there isnt much room, but is doable

So i have my own running car again,

A 1992 EB ghia

Its a bit of a mess but the mechanicals are fantastic.

The sellers had a reserve of $3500

But after getting down to Melbourne the nose has had a light knock cracking a headlight plastic mounting clip and moved the bumper. The general car was not as described by her partener and i managed to talk her down to a mere $1500. I have receipts for the reco T5 not including labour or the new clutch, and more receipts for a head reco, a new radiator and a diff service.

I am happy with the cars drive line as the gearbox and clutch are very tight and i think the LSD has a nice ratio being 3.27. There is a slight oil leak from the head gasket unfortunately but i have a wade cam ready to go so there's an excuse to fit it.

Now i just have to find some time to work on the car as i work 8an - 4pm 5 days a week and only get to miss GF on weekends, Looks like my afternoons will be getting much busier.

From now on all "missions" will be listed on a to do list keeping to a few things at a time so the car is always drivable the next morning.

There is a problem with changing down to 3rd thou, Changing up through 3rd is fine but it wont go down to 3rd unless i put it in 2nd then third i just keep clutch in.

I will be using parts of my last car but doing straight swaps to keep both cars as complete as possible in order to sell the ED to recover funds as parting is very time consuming and i don't want to be left with lots of parts laying around.

Will post progress pictures once worthy of such.

Regards.

Very cool dude. Yeah it can be time consuming to part out a car, but it can also be very worth while $$$ wise.

Cheers

I had a ED GLI with only 115,000 kms on the clock, almost nothing required for rwc, maybe $500 tops to spend, even had cold a/c & i couldn't sell it for $800, so i parted it out. Got $300 for parts i sold, kept front end bits to fix one of my Xr8's and then scrapped the rest for $200. :D The parts i kept were worth $600 at least if i had to buy them from a wreckers. So i ended up with more than i wanted in the end. The ED Fairmont Ghia i recently wrecked, i got plenty of bits for my Xr8's from it, sold some bits for a good profit & then scrapped what was left, if i count up the cost of the bits i kept, i tripled my investment.

I'd be thinking the 3rd gear issue could be worn syncro's between 3rd & 4th. How's the up change, ok or a little notchy?

My T5 in the EB Ghia (both Xr8's are T5's as well) is shifting like it's almost new again, which is a great feeling.

Cheers

The meaning of reco'd differs between workshops. Some take the view that you put a bearing, seal & syncro kit thru a box, and replace anything else that might be worn as well. Other's will say oh, only the 2nd syncro is worn, the rest are within reason & the bearings are ok atm, so let's just do the one syncro & be done with it.

What happens if you drive the box with the double clutch method to downshift? My torry's 3speed manual box required you to double clutch it all the time, as the syncro's were totally shagged. Didn't bother me at all, i can double clutch properly. I can also swap gear's without the clutch too if required. I found the synco's totally shagged when i pulled the box out of the car & inspected it, i found what i already knew from driving it.

Cheers

Well been busy as sh|t last couple of weeks its hell hard to find time to get things done.

But! the ED has an Engine and a T5 just got to tie up a few loose ends. I bolted up the Billet Shifter from the US and may be getting my hands on some 25 and 30mm sway bars to keep it flat. Once the car is together and going it will stay like that for a while as i will be purchasing some land and paying it off a for future use, ie house.. ive got a great stable gig on a contract paying good money. At this point in life its not worth while spending to much more on the car ie boost paint job bigger rims.

After its running i will swap the EB fairmont open diff for the EB ghia's LSD.

I am booked in for some free dyno time with a mate and his navara powered by a SR20, his dad has some nice contacts and i have been invited with his family to go to SEMA!!! f**k SEMA next year! once in a life chance and im right on board with it.

Im just mumbling along but the car is being worked on every arvo after work from about 4.30 till the bugs come out and eat me alive! usually about 6.

Im still struggling to find s**t ie extractor bolts because its been so damn long since i pulled the thing apart and i have like 4 engines and 3 cars worth of bolts bits and pieces.

Thanks for your interest in my build,

Regards.

But will your AUT set up for $2K hold together huggie or be a time bomb?
Remember the rules in the performance world.
You can have Cheap
You can have powerful
You can have reliability
BUT you can only have 2 out of the 3!

well its a factory ford turbo unit and since its still the original turbo (rebuild by snort performance) id say its pretty good. even for the 4.5K the site lists as a price you can get alot more power and reliability.

no matter what motor you have or setup, it will only hold together for soo long. every motor will die at some stage
