What this "EDIT" actualy is.

programmable J3 chip. Basicaly another version of Tweecer (mabey with realtime tuning capablility). Think of it as a "chiptorque with more tuners.

Apart from the point that it is defectable. Any modifications to the ECU/FI system is a defect item. With a true edit, you can't tell.

Don't get me wrong, it will be good.

My understanding is that our implementation of EECV is not currently 'wired' to accept a flash edit in the same manner as AU/BA units are.

I believe the ECU is capable of it but requires some hardware modifications.

I'd like to see the definitions which have been put together... maybe these could be used on a tweecer....

i have 2 or 3 CFI ecu's floating about, we could experiment with making them flashable if need be, that would be cool.

^ I think you'd find that they are EEC-IV and wouldnt be physically capable of having the relevant chips flashed. I believe EF/EL EEC-V is flashable hardware - but the wiring is not configured in such a way which allows this, as they were in AU.

Technically EF/EL ECUs should be cabaple of being OBDII compliant. But they would need work done to them in order to allow this to happen.

To be honest, different chipsets are outside my IT knowledge. Can anyone pull EEC open and identify a flashable chip and/or a non-flashable chip?

Hmmm...not sure about this statement. What is the definition of a "True Edit"? For that matter what is the definition of an "Edit"?

Everyone seems to have their own ideas about what "Edit" is, and a different expectation of what it does, and how it works.

I dont expect that SCT will develop a new product entirely so that E-Series EECV's can be flashed. Not when they already have a perfectly good working product in their multiposition J3 Chip, that does exaclty the same thing.

As for being defectable, thats no different to running a unichip piggyback, or a chiptorque J3 chip, or a twEECer, or fully aftermarket computer. If you are serious about keeping it legal, just get it engineered (or leave it stock), something that is not even possible with some aftermarket computers...i dont see this stopping anybody from using it.

Well the 5.0L does use the EECIV or EECV so would this unit be compatible with the 5.0L?

j/k the flashable chip is in the brown socket.

AFAIK (I've spent some time studying, my various EL ECUs) there's no flashable chip on them.
