can somebody help me i have a 96 efII fairmont and am doing a manual conversion all i need is an ecu to match it needs to be smartlock compatible. can anyone tell me the catch code for the ecu that i need?.... cheers.

Basically any manual EF ecu. I have a EF Fairmont and am running a futura ecu without probs because all the Fairmont goodies are controlled by the BCM

The manual EF 6 cylinder ecu's will have the letter 'A' as the third digit. The Tickford versions will have the letter 'T' as the second digit also. The 4 at the start means its an EF....... 6 will mean its for an EL. Last digit is just a revision code

eg...... 4DAB..... ef manual
......4TAC......tickford manual

does it matter whether or not u put in a tickford ecu or a standard one

I would say no........ as most of the tickford gains (inlcuding the odd couple kw ) came from the better breathing head, fuel regulator and better diff gearing, and different shift points in the auto's

You can do without the manual ecu by following the tech doc on this site..... shows you how to solder in 2 resistors in the auto loom (for idle, reverse lights etc)

Then if your not happy, go spend the $$$ on the manual ecu..... they also fetch a fair bit too....
