Well, last week I sent my car to an LPG 'Specialist' to get the gas system fixed up. The place was Vermont Autogas. They're associated with a taxi depot so, either rightly or wrongly, I made the assumption that since they're always working on LPG on taxi's, they'd do a good job. After all, if they kept on stuffing up LPG systems on taxis and they kept on getting stranded unable to earn money, the mechanic would have got the flick. That was my reasoning anyway. Oh, and he was also just over the back fence of where I work, that was another reason I went to him.

He put a new convertor on the car and re-piped it to the engine bay. Previously it was sitting under the car. The workmanship was good, but he obviously hasn't got a clue about tuning.

When I got the car back, it was virtually un-drivable due to the fact that when I clutched to change gears, the engine would stall. Strike 1.

I fiddled with the adjusting screws and managed to get it good enough to drive however, before and after my fiddling, the car won't cruise properly. The engine cuts out from running too lean below certain throttle openings so, at the moment, the fuel cuts in and out quite rapidly.... maybe 3-4 time a second, when you're cruising. Strike 2.

Got home on Monday night only to find white smoke pouring out of the bonnet. Found out it was the A/C gas leaking out from the compressor. The mechanic was asked to check over the A/C system and re-gas it. Re-gas it he did, check it he didn't. Strike 3.

Found out yesterday that not only does my car run awful on LPG, but now it won't run properly on petrol either! Feels like it's trying to run on LPG and petrol @ the same time. Strike 4!

I would not reccomend going to this guy at all. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing and is certainly no LPG 'specialit' Just though I'd warn you guys of him.

I've had some dealings with them in the past and can't stand them. Try Ringwood Dynomatic on Heatherdale Rd. They upgraded my underbonnet components with an Impco 225 and it's an excellent job. (and 5% better economy).

Hmmm. I might give them a call. The first question I asked Vermont Autogas was if there was anything they could do to upgrade the mixer on my car. They said no.

I found it odd that I essentially said "I want to spend money with you upgrading my car"

Dont they have some sort of guarantee on their work? Did u take it back to them and ask them to fix the problem? What did they say?

I rang them and they were happy to fix the problems. BUT.....

I thought about it and came to the conclusion, since they don't have a dyno, that if they had another crack at tuning it, it probably wouldn't be any better than the first time they tried and I'd still be up for getting a real professional to dyno-tune it.
Secondly, all he did with the air-con system was re-gas it. It's leaking from the compressor which means if it was broken before he touched it, nothing can be done under warranty and if the air-con system has to be fixed, I'd rather take it to my regular mechanic as either way the work would have to be done and payed for no matter where the car goes.

My regular mechanic can't tune gas just in case anyone's wondering why I didn't take the car to my regular mechanic.

Be very carefull of what you say / type here guys, there is no such thing as free speach in AUS BTW!

There are more than a handfull of bad mech's / gas installers out there, who either don't have a damn clue or just don't give a f**k.

unclewoja, I had a similar experience with my torana when it was first converted, they did a bad job, it wasn't tuned @ all, and i couldn't even fill the f**k thing until i took it back to them to bend the filler so the gas pump would fit onto the filler! FFS! I spent ages getting it running reasobably, as at the time i couldn't afford to get it properly tuned. They will remain nameless on here, due to legal reasons.

Word of mouth is a very powerfull thing.

Cheers

ToranaGuy

Well guys my dads works a Boemo's in abbotsford so lets spell it correctly. He is second in charge and he has to put up with a**hole all day long coming in and demanding things to be fixed at that very second, i see what your saying as a load of S**T, as if they would bash you fool they would get charged. Second of all there is no forklift at abbotsford so i think your pulling s**t right out ur a**. They have LPGI on the market already have been in extensive testing over the last 9 months!! So if you come in with some attitude problem what are they likely to do!? they are busy they dont have time for your crap. They are gonna tell you to leave, If they were so bad how come my car manages to pull over 450k's on an asperated LPG set up?? C'mon grow up

Mate, don't do the whole "My daddy this, my daddy that" routine and then tell people to grow up. You whippersnaps still have a lot of maturing to do if you're living vicariously through your father. So if you've got growing up to do, don't tell other people to do it.

You may think that you've saved Boemo's from losing customers with your post, but I can garuntee you, many more people, including me, will stay away from them because of your post. You can call your daddy at work now and tell him you lost him some customers. This completes your first lesson in customer relations.
