On a stock EA I lowered the fuel pressure and bumped up the timing on the stock computer and improved economy alot. But not as much as when it has a fully programable EMS8860 I was getting less than 9.5l/100km combination City/Hwy whereas previous to any mods it was closer to 14/100km. But tuning for economy can bump up emissions.

Just wondering how "But tuning for economy can bump up emissions". I was under the impression economy meant less fuel, which in turn would mean less emissions??

I understand that when fuel usage is reduced, it does decrease the some emissions, but apparently NOx levels go up.

I have also read that lean cruise modes are no longer allowed in ECU programming for this reason.

Wow, somebody got under 6lt/100 from a falcon! Far out.

If i drive my mighty boy fairly soft, i can get 4.5/100 out of it, but man it's just too slow. My EB, i'm running an avg of about 16/100 with 3k rpm changes, lots of varied driving, suburban & city. On the highway, i get down to about 10/100 atm. I think my MAP & EGO are in need of replacement tho.

Economy is almost exactly the same between petrol & LPG.

Cheers

instead of 5.6... i think i meant 6.5! but the essence still is, thats pretty bloody good. Runs in the low 8s on the highway normally. around 13-14 around town.

nice mine btw!

I only just did my first ever long distance trip last week. Almost made 900km's from the tank in the EA.. the previous owner said he only ever got about 500-600. I have put an EL manifold on though and it's completely running off a megasquirt ecu which i have tuned quite lean, runs around 16 to 16.5:1 on the highway with fuel cut on decel ect. I think if i did the trip without all the overtaking i would have managed the 900km mark.

So use an old thread and some kid will complain.. make a new thread when one already exists and yep you guessed it.. someone will complain.. Grow up and get over it, it isn't hurting anyone.

i think the issue is more when someone digs up an old thread to say, "ohh wow, thats great" or something along those lines, as in this case.

if you dig it up to ask a proper question or something, no one will worry.

Who the hell cares about fuel economy? If you and I cared about fuel economy, we'd buy Hyundai's!!!
We're interested in power, that's why we have Falcon's.

Correction here... *I* care the hell about Fuel enconomy :-) but didn't when I first got the Fairmont.

When I bought it, $55 would get me a full tank, chips and a coke at the servo, and that was on the most expensive days!

5 years later, $90 just barely fills the tank!
And extra $30 every week changes ones priorities :-)

Dude...that's not fuel economic at all. Works out to be like 17L/100km on a Diesel. I'd expect fuel eco to be maybe 10L/100km for diesel cars. So far my economy using actual figures is about 12.8L/100km. By actual figures I mean I use the odometer figure and how much petrol I put in.

phong =P~

My old Datto 720 SD22 diesel single cab ute used to get about 900 to 950Klm's out of a 68lt tank on a trip from Vic to NSW doing 90Kph
works out to be 7 to 7.5Lts per 100Klm's, If I pushed it upto 110Kph on the Hwy I'd over double my fuel consumption.

i was reasonable happy with my XR, on my way up from Melb to the Gold Coast. I averged just over 11 litres per 100km. Loaded up and cruising on 120km/h almost the whole way.

Wish i had my mates g/f little Getz, it got 4.8l/100 to and from Adelaide a few months back. Loaded up for holiday as well, and getting flogged a lot fo the way.
