Tis in the assembly troubleshooting section

http://www.msefi.com/msinfo/manual/mass.htm#trouble

Quote:
2) The stimulator doesn't have the voltage to 'overpower' the John Zener diode (D8), so it must be 'jumpered' to test MegaSquirt on the stimulator. This diode (D8) is needed if your ignition system has a large offset bias - most systems do not have such a bias. So, to start, you can either solder in a jumper wire in this location, or, you can install the diode D8, and then install a jumper around the two leads of the diode - in effect shorting it out. The latter will allow you to snip the jumper later on if needed, putting the diode back in circuit.

Dunno if it's relevant (ie if you installed D8) I think I did but I can't remember... lol

Sounds like it's phyiscally 'all there'... maybe look at the communication port settings on your PC/windows i.e. baud rate etc.

OK, fast forwarding a step... :)

How are people planning to tap into the ECU wiring ?
I've just been out hanging upside down in the footwell to see what I'm up against and it looks VERY tough to get to the pin outs to count what wire goes to what (from a wiring diagram)

Image

The black area at the top is an air vent duct which looks pretty fixed but it's blocking where the wiring loom leaves the plug...
Anyone got manual with the wiring colour code ? That'd make life easy...

What did you do Waggin when wiring up the motec ?
:?

Hyena,

Remove the EEC. Unplug the harness (has a bolt which allows you to slide the harness in without bending any pins). The loom is clipped to a support bar underneath the glovebox - if you pull this out (just little clips holding the loom up there, use a bit of force to get out - you can clip them back in when you're done) .... then you have plenty of room to move the harness around... or at least get it to a position that's comfortable to work with.

The EEC plug has pin numbers marked on it. Personally i would never rely on a colour diagram and when i get around to fitting MS i will be checking ive got the correct wire about 3 times before cutting or splicing it.

Just go by your workshop manual - get the pin number, count it out on the loom and triple check it before taking to it with pliers/strippers....

yeah I figured I'd have to pull the lot out. I've gotta go out in 2 hours so I don't want to pull it all out now incase I kill it... haha
I've been switching between working on the MS and the bodykit every half hour with the rain

You can drive around without the EEC bolted in :) I do it regularly.

I just used my workshop manuals for pinout info, and then double checked with a multimeter to see if I got the expected readings.

I was going to do that too, but decided I couldnt be f**k and just chopped everything off :D

If you want an EF 104 pin 'male' plug to create a loom from, i've got one :D

Before you go chopping and making looms it's best to decide what you need to chop outright and what you're going to share (ie you'll just strip back some of the insulation and solder to the wire, leaving it in tact. )
I've got to the stage now where I need to look at what I'm wires I actually have to use from the ECU loom and I've realised that I kinda don't actually know what I'm doing...

All the relay and power stuff (basically all the stuff at the bottom not coming directly off the MS plug) in the below diagram is a little confusing, but I think that's already in place in the car so you can pretty much ignore that (ie it's for those who didn't have EFI to start with)

I guess you wire up injectors 1,3 and 5 ( EECV pins 73,74 and 75) to pins 32 and 33 of the megasquirt DB37 plug and injectors 2,4 and 6 (pins 99, 100 and 101) to MS pins 34 and 35 ??
I don't know why in teh MS diagram injectors 1 and 2 (and likewise 3 and 4) are seperate when the wires are joined together before going back to the seperate pins on the MS cable... :?

Image

It seems soldering it all up was the easy part! (for me atleast) :P
