perfect, just a pic of the port with white goo, then with the clear coat still on the pins would be great.

its for the installation doco i will supply with the chips :)

OK... here is the goop image.. hi res in non compressed format...

http://littlehosting.com/testing/ford/ecu/goop.png

And here is a much worse image showing the goop removed.

http://littlehosting.com/testing/ford/ecu/nogoop.png

the first is nearly 2mb and the second well over 1mb.

Is that what you wanted??

I can take some more if need be.

Perfect, the bottom one is too blury for the docco, but the top one is excellent.

I can redo the bottom one if you need it?

you can use various utilities to disassemble the bin into assembly code. this is how the definitions were developed - by looking at the code and working out which memory locations are used by what functions.

i dont have a copy of the directive file for the disassembler (which tells it what is code and what is data) - but my counterpart in the UK does.

Is that directive file freely available or is it proprietary? The AU bin I'm trying to nut out seems at first blush different enough to the EF one that I might need to go back to first principles once I've exhausted any similar patterns in the raw hex... and the EF I6 def isn't quite complete anyway.

Also, there may be a need to change code (not just scalars & tables), depending on how far people want to take this. One example is the EF BAP (MAP?) transfer table which maxes out at 128Hz, encoded as 0xFFFF in a 2-byte word. If the sensor is capable of generating more than 128Hz, the transfer table would need to be relocated to allow the X coordinates to be stored in, say, a double word (4 bytes). It would then be necessary to change the code to point to the table's new location. Of course this would only need to be done for boost levels that correspond to more than a 128Hz frequency from the sensor. Atmospheric pressure corresponds to 81.13Hz, so I guess 128Hz would be around the 11-12psi fuel cut I've seen mentioned somewhere?

thanks boys.

will try to get the .dir for you. afaik, AU/EF are very different.

good point about the map sensor, didnt realise it was at cutoff. i thought there would be some leeway in the table to allow it to be scaled up -- FFFF sucks.

I had to start somewhere, had a choice between EF & EL bin's. I figured the EF was closer, having a coilpack and 104-pin interface. I'm just working to get a feel for the data, then I'll go looking for similar patterns in the AU bin and try a couple of other approaches as well.

There is some room to move with the EF MAP sensor, the air pressure (Y) reads 30.98in Hg (ie 1 bar) at X=81.13Hz and X=128Hz. If anyone knows what boost pressure causes the MAP to generate 128Hz, then that;s the limit of the BAP transfer table with a simple Y-value edit.

I reckon someone who understands the code (as opposed to the data, as Dima was asking) would be able to reprogram around this limit, so long as the sensor can output more than 128Hz. I think I saw a graph somewhere on one of the Seppo sites showing it going to 256+ Hz. I need to bookmark more...

afaiu reprogramming the code would be a lot more work; data edits can be done in-place, but code edits would require a recompile of the assember code, as you are moving all of the references around...

here's some more info on the map sensor: http://www.aa1car.com/library/map_sensors.htm

Exactly. It could be done but wouldn't be pretty. I was thinking of hand-manipulating the binary with the hex editor, given the vast tracts of FF's, but then maybe they're actually used while the engine is running?

And for some reason, the vacuum vs frequency spec for that MAP sensor (159Hz at 0 vacuum) is different to the table in the EF def (128Hz maximum, 81.13Hz at 0 vacuum). Maybe it's stored as unsigned (logical given the frequency can never be negative) so OxFFFF really means 256Hz (or approx 255.999Hz if you want to be pedantic  ).

That would mean the 0 vacuum frequency of 81.13 Hz is also approximately doubled to somewhere in the vicinity of 162Hz. Allowing a bit of leeway for the imprecision of single-precision floats, that more or less ties in with the 159Hz that AA1car assert.

(EDIT: Was a bit off track there, have delved a bit further into the software and found the F2 key! The X conversion equation for that table looks like it should be X/256 not X/512, that will line the table up against the spec quoted on AA1car.)

cool.

i remember derek saying that the types in the code for some of the tables (spark and probably MAP) didnt seem to match what the data represented... in some of the XDFs for N4AGB the spark values are all double.

Updated the site http://www.techcore.com.au/eec/

Now have HEAPS of stock, and a buy page to buy the chips online.

Cheers,

Jason
