Ok heres another thought. If I buy the j3 chip with the tuning pack is there a chance there is a map I could download from an au with similar mods so later on if I get a cam I can then download one from an au with a cam as well? I have seen a few of guys talking about downloading stuff for it and thinking it will be better in the long run cost wise.

You should really only buy the tuning pack if you plan to invest the time and effort to learn how to tune. Otherwise it will be cheaper to just get the chip retuned if you fit a cam.

I can make up base tunes and send them via email, pricing is on the site.

Cheers,
Jason

Not sure I understand your question. You should have all the info you need to make a decision?

Sorry I should be more clear. If I get the kit to tune it myself. Is there an advantage to doing that over just ordering a tune from you? You have been doing it for a long time and probably have more of an idea of what works and what doesnt but every car is slightly different.

Hi mate,

Again, I think you have answered your own question! If you do it yourself, you will have to invest the time to gain the same level experience.

Cheers,
Jason

Hi Jason,

This may be a bit of a weird/odd/stupid question.

But, will a tuned(Chipped) ECU interfere with the timing chain, making it noisy?

I.e. getting 2nd hand engine with no mods, and using a chipped ECU

Thank You
Peter. P

Hi Jas.

I purchased a custom tune j3 off you at the end of last year. I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the tune considering the amount of mods that were done and all the extras I asked for. AFR's are pretty darn close to the mark, a little on the lean side at idle only. Idle is awesome for such a big cam, sits bang on 650 with no hunt or stall problems whatsoever.
Only thing I would say that would make it even better for me would be to have the ED XR6 auto shift strategy adopted (on EL EEC). The ED XR6 EEC holds all gears much longer at any throttle and would suit the big cam better, as with the EL map it changes much sooner. It's not a big deal, it's just a bit doggy unless it's reving.

One question though. I ran a diagnostic on it tonight and while running the KOER test it ran like a pile of s**t. It was like it was bypassing the chip and running on the factory tune. Is that normal? After I unplugged the jump wire and started it again to make sure, and it was all good.

Thanks for the kind words!

The shift maps would be able to be tidied up with a retune if you find you'd like it to hold gears longer. I assume you've worked out that Power/Econ is reversed with the EL ECU?

Self test includes a few checks inc low idle etc, wouldn't be surprised if it ran slightly poorly as long as it came good after.

Cheers,
Jason

Hey jason.

Will diff gears affect a tune? And in the custom order tunes can you change shift maps for the au autos yet? Or just e series like I have read in previous pages.

They effect engine load so yes, but it will be fairly minor in an NA application. A dyno run after fitting will confirm all is OK and is a good idea anyway.

No auto edit for AU yet.

Jason

Thanks mate. Waiting till I finish a few mods before I get the chip from you. Just thought I would check.

Is the au auto remap a future plan. Or like very distant. Its not possible to like get an el ecu and use it to adjust the auto is it?

Yeah, I know about the power button being reversed.
The ED shift map thing was just a suggestion, mainly for big cam chips, and those like myself who are still using the old log manifold. The XR6 POWER map just seems to be more responsive to throttle changes for kick-down, and holds gears at lighter throttle.
I will be needing to have my chip re tuned soon though, as I'm converting to manual and BBM next weekend.

On a different subject, would anyone know why my base ignition timing needs to be set by ear at about 50 - 60º off the TDC mark? Set to the mark it won't rev past 1500 and backfires through the air box. It's an ED with EF balancer and serpentine setup. Balancer rubber is good and has not slipped.
