I am looking to get this done early next year alongside a tune, not really after more power as much as i am sound + efficiency as well.

I was looking at a 2.5" Redback exhaust with hi flow cat and a big mouth box style cai with new piping.

Make the CAI yourself out of the standard airbox and use a K&N panel and save a d!ckwad of cash.

If you Want to keep a neat stock appearance, you can put the BA piping onto your AU and add a XR6T snorkle. I'll find the link for you, explains it really well I thought. Like skidder said, do it yourself and you will save a lot of money.

If you are going to get the BA piping from a wreckers, make sure to check the seal where it connects to the TB. I made the mistake of not checking well enough, and let's just say the seal wasn't great... It fell off when I first started the car... Lol

A good high-flow panel filter is more than adequate for any mildly-modded EF-AU. These guys tested the EF induction and found that even a stock paper filter produces minimal restriction:
http://www.autospeed.co.nz/cms/A_107828/article.html

On an AU, the airbox exit, the snorkel, and the induction tube are your bottlenecks (in that order). The AU doesn't have the EF's bonnet gap problem.

Ok i picked up a BA Induction tube (with rubber pipe and clamps) in mint con for $45 and 1 meter of 80mm for $15.

Only thing that is left is a wide mouth snorkel.

What would be bigger then the stock au2 snorkel and causes the least restriction?

I was thinking of saving up for a big mouth or picking up a xr/tickford snorkel.

Also i already read that guide, ill go back and check out the other parts.

I'm pretty sure the AU XR8 and BA XR6 Turbo and XR8 all use the bigger snorkel. It's a standard part so there's plenty around, reasonably cheap, and still available new. The Tickford snorkel is identical except for the cool wings  - unfortunately, no longer available new.

You can easily tell whether the snorkel you are looking at is the bigger one - the difference is obvious. Check the link in FordAUte's post above to see them side by side.

If you want more flow, there is a second lower snorkel available from the F6. I'm not sure how it works with the AU rad support/headlight arrangement though. I'm sure it has been done, so it might pay to do a search of this forum.

If you want to go even bigger, SS Inductions Big Mouth is massive - flows at least twice as much as the XR8/XR6T snorkel. But the small difference in performance is probably not worth the extra money unless you are going to do some serious mods. It also produces a lot more induction noise - you might or might not want that.

The xr6/8 snorkel should be fine, how much do they go for new/used?

40-ish new from memory... hang on...

ill find what i wrote down...

found it, this is from Papa Smurf (so if your reading... cheers again)

BA XR6T
Code: BA9A624
$45.70

i dont have the XR8 code, but its exactly the same product... and like others have said the AU XR8 has the tickford wings on it, but you can only buy it privately and is therefore rare and expensive...

well, the price i gave should be the price that ALL ford dealers supply that snorkel at. second to that, a wreckers? or privately?
you could try bursons, but its a a genuine ford part they most likely wont be able to get it any cheaper than what ford will get it for you. try another local mechanic you have, they might be close friends with someone at the ford dealer... one might just 'fall off' the back of a truck for you.
have a look around, the worse you will find is a s**t quote lol

heat gun? for the pvc?
