Bloody hell, all the plenum bolts are finally off and the chamber is resting to the right a little.

Now I just need to put the power steering to the side, take the spark plugs out, and attempt to get the head bolts off.

Oy vey what a task so far.

When I pick up a spark plug remover tool tomorrow probably. Though I tried to get the bloody power steering pump off and tothe side today and snapped an adapter.

Also I'm going ot have to renew the sealant that was attached to the rocker cover right? What is it? Because it's a harder sealant, not like that blue stuff (that I already have).

how many tools do you have? a spark plug socket should be in even the most basic socket sets.

that should be a gasket on the rocker cover. will come witht he VRS kit. i will get a price for you today.

as for the p/s pump, which part did you break? where did you try to undo it?

I snapped an adapter off into a 10mm socket working on the lowest bolt shown in the picture, haven't had much luck with the larger bolts here either. Was just an adapter for the socket, too small for the rachet.

And I've highlighted the sealant stuff I'm on about in the second picture. It's not like the thinner stuff I used on the thermostat gasket.

was it an adaptor to go from 1/2 inch to 3/8 or something? try and get the same size socket as the ratchet, the less add ons you got makes it easier.

as for your rocker cover its just like a silastic. but with a new gasket you shouldnt need anything to go with it.

thats looks like the rocker cover gasket fits in a groove just pull it out.

as for the power steering pump bracket, the bolts norm pretty tight you really need a good set of tools to do this. make sure your using a hex ipact socket on ure head bolts or you will only have trouble.

give those p/steer bolts a good soak in WD-40 or lube or something if you can too. might help ya a bit.

fixed and 2nd'ed.

Thought i'd be smart and use a brand new sidchrome 14mm multi-hex socket. Nup, rounded off the bolt.

14mm impact socket, short extension, breaker bar, length of pipe ARE MANDATORY.

Yeah I got my 14mm hex impact socket, but no extension bar as yet, so it's impossible atm to remove the head bolts. Thinking of just buying a length of pipe from bunnings, because I know a properly designed bar will cost big bucks.

Anyone know the actual sizes of the 2 top and bottom bolt on that bracket, holding the power steering pump to the front of the head?

Cheers guys.

hello from a newb
sorry to bump the thread but this looked like the best place to ask

I have been looking for info in reguards to setting the timing marks on the motor

1/2 way through the head change on my ea (old head's sill bolted on but th manifolds and p/s pump have been removed ) and was wondering the best way?? just roll the motor over cold with a socket or somthing else i'm not thinking of.

tools arn't a problem and ive only ever done the head on small 4cyls (800cc) motors

got a new head ready to go (except the timing)

Thanks
Dingstock

and the answer is yes :)

(don't i feel stoopid)

yeh, just take the plugs out and turn it over with a socket.

if your swap is that quick, it isnt essential, just helpful incase anything does move.

just ziptie the cam gear to the chain, undo the bolt, undo head bolts and lift the head over the sprocket.
