I was on my way to work before and my voltage goes up to 16v with the slightest revving. And all my needles drop then makes a beep then they go back to normal. It's done it about 5 times. Ive
got a fairmont cluster, and when I start my car it beeps for a few mins but I think that might be because I don't have a oil pressure sensor

any help would be appreciated cheers

Possible alternator regulator problem maybe on its way out. For the voltage to spike i would say its that, which are pretty cheap and easy to fit. Usually two screws holding it on the back of the alternator. The brushes wear and can sometime C**k over a bit causing the voltage to spike.

Hope that helps Mate.

P.S Check the output of the alternator with a multimeter to be sure. You can just put it over the battery terminals to check if you weren't sure.

As kickn_it said, 16V is way too high. Do as he said and check at battery with a multimeter. The Mitsubishi alternator like the earlier Bosch units have an internal regulator. Unfortunately the Mitsubishi alternator requires disassembly of the alternator to replace the regulator. If you're careful, you can pull it down yourself and visit your local auto electrician to obtain a new regulator and brushes. It will require some soldering to complete this job.

Yeah 16V (if that's what's really happening) will quickly kill your battery, by boiling the electrolyte off.

Plus it MAY damage electrics (most of the factory stuff will be ok, but any after market stuff is up in the air).

yup.. this just happened to me.. I had a EF alternator in my EL because they have 10 amps higher output than the EL, and my voltage went up to 18. Swapped in an EL alternator and it's all good now.

Try not to drive to much till you fix it, because one of the effects the high voltage had on my car was to burn out the ABS module so I have no ABS now.

its cheaper to buy a new alternator than trying to get it fix. the regulator is totally rooted and bosch is the way to go than the mitsubishi one. problem solve. i recommend not to drive the car anymore until u fix or ur transmission will stay in limp home mode and that sucks.

You will need to use a Mitsubishi alternator as it is a 110 amp rated one as you own an EF.
