that sucks. i was hoping i could do it without engineering, but looks like it has to be engineered. other wise i could try and build a bullet proof engine and see how i go bolting up the triptronic box.

why not just mod the sump then, should cost half the cost of modifying the k frame..

Yeah, would be a waste of money to pay that much to fit an AU motor. However if it's to fit a B series type motor and comes with engineers certificate, you might have struck a decent deal.

It is all a very similar process for the EA/EB/ED as far as I know, the biggest difference I'm pretty sure is you don't need to take as much out of the sump and with the early E-series you need to install the EL ECU and do some minor wiring work to make sure your trip computer works and disable the Smartlock.............

I'm currently writing my build method for this project then will put together a very comprehensive (Gregory, Haynes type) tech document for anyone else looking at doing a similar project; and once I've got mine and a couple mates cars sorted I will assess the costs involved with the job and come up with some pricing to do this as a drive-in-drive-out job

You can cut the sump on a barra DOHC just the same as an AU engine.
Anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.
I've just finished a barra install in my XH longreach ute. I've got about 5mm clearance between the alloy plate welded into the sump & the oil pickup pipe. I slightly re-shaped the K-frame with a hammer below the sump & I ended up with a 20mm clearance.
You don't need to mod the windage tray either on the DOHC since its bolted to the engine.
I got my ute mod plated this week and the conversion is now fully legal.
K-frame cutting & shutting is not legal according to the National Code of Practice.

This is were I stole the idea from:

You can use any E series Head on the AU block. No issues at all. You don't need an AU Bellhousing for the block, you can use the E series bellhousing, just missing a couple of bolts on the lower. Troyman ran an E series bellhousing behing his AU Engine in his ED and it punched 260RwKw with no issues.
