Ok guys I'm new to the forum, in fact just found it today and think i may be on the way to resolving my fuel issue, I'm living in Lismore city (mostly <60kmph) but am only getting about 250-270km per tank (should mention, its a 2000 auII falcon futura wagon 6 seater - bench and column shift AUTO), which was somewhere between 22-23l/100km. From what I've read this should be somewhere closer to 12-17L

so far i have done the following in a bid to restore the consumption (im not a heavy footed driver, medium at best)

changed oil and filter
changed air filter
changed fuel filter
changed plugs
cleaned throttle body
replaced o2 sensor

also make sure my tires are at 32psi, and generally car is empty with only driver or 1 passenger. car has got 18xxxxkms on it, and as far as i can tell, its not lacking power

from reading some threads on here the next logical steps for me would be

1.check MAP sensor, and tube attached to it for leaks. possible replace sensor.
2.possibility of fuel leak in line, though if this is the case it is only doing it when under load, as when parked i haven't noticed anything. whats a good way to test this?
3. blocked cat converter?
4. possibility of fuel pump? i have noticed it makes a constant whine whilst on, if i am not playing music can hear it over engine when idling.
5. someone suggested have injectors cleaned, though im not sure on this one.

is there anything I've missed here? also wondering if there was a good thread or article on the MAP sensor, i'm still learning bout cars, so far its been a frustrating but interesting experience. Some more knowledgeable advice is much appreciated. thanks in advance

I doubt it. If it has worked, you should notice your car stalling for the first 100km's of so when you come to a stop.

ok i havent noticed this, though after unplugging battery for a good 45minutes i made sure to follow the advice i fouund on here and

1. idle in drive ac on for 2 minutes
2. repeat ac off 2 minutes
3. idle neutral ac on 2 minutes
4. repeat ac off 2 minutes
5. took for 15 minutes drive with variable throttle positions.

didnt stall once, though when i started car the lcd in the dash flashed up with all symbols at once, is there another way to make sure ecu was reset? the way i understood it was to simply unplug battery for 40minutes - hour

ok well im down to 3 possibles, sorry for the noob question but if there was a fuel leak, is it possible it would only leak when the car is under load? obviously the fuel pump does not run when the car is off, but i never notice any liquid under the car where it has been parked.

i dont think it is the map sensor or the cat converter as performance is fine, no smoke etc. and i gave the cat a tap and no rattling.

any other ideas guys? i will be taking it to my local mechanic on tuesday and advising him to check a list of things, what should i add to that list?
