ok well my BA xr6 has got to the point where im seriously thinking about getting rid of it. Im averaging 15-16L per 100 around town and thats it i drive like a snail. Im lucky to have done 200km by the time the fuel tank reads 1/2. the car has done 110 000km. The hubs are due for replacement but i cant see that being the problem. Going back 4 months ago i was getting 12L per 100 around town. Any Ideas?

My BA has been getting a constant 15.3L.100 since i got it... id like to know aswell lol

Gees guys thats bad economy. My T averages around 14.3 L /100kms and can get in the low 11's extended highway driving. Thats with normal driving with the odd boot up its a***. Check if Ford have a revised ECU software upgrade for it to help which i know at one stage BA's had software updates.

Is that the only issue? filthy fuel regulator?
I'd look at all the other things. Fuel filter for a start cause its the most basic service item in this area, then check for vaccuum leaks. If your filter is filthy as a sewer, then you might have a dirty tank which would need to be cleaned out. Then look at things like the MAP sensor, O2 sensor, ignition coils, fuel injectors, fuel regulator, inlet air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, and any other sensor or output device which has a bearing on the fuel or ignition output. |

Exactly what xcabbi says. I replaced/cleaned/refurbed all of the parts he has listed and i get around 14l/100 and thats not soft footing everywhere. AND MINES A 96 FOR f**k SAKE!! Definately should be a LOT better. Cheers Sam

it's a long shot but check around the manifold gasket, if the cars getting to much air in the chamber, it's squirting more fuel in to compensate

im getting around 15L per 100k as average in mine, but i know what the problem is... im a p plater, with a very impatience right foot.

gee i didnt realise b series were that thursty?
 our au averages 13ltr per 100 city and 9 on the freeway.. even my ed turbo averages 16-18 ltrs per 100 city with a fair amount of spirited driving, and 10 ltrs per 100 on the freeway.. |

i get low to high 10's(per 100km not 1/4 mile unfortunately
 ) with my bf with moderate mixed driving (highway/city-boot down/cruise). have heard of a few bas chewing inlet manifold to head gaskets out. vacuum leaks are usually the main offender of sudden fuel consumption increases. or sensors as xcabbi mentioned. cam/crank angle sensors don't last forever either.

 ) and using 91?

So thats a big difference to what im getting |

Fuel filter was replaced about 8000km ago. Car is due for coils and sparkplugs but my dad just replaced them on his BA ghia and noticed no difference in fuel usage and he's getting 13.8L average. Where is the inlet air temp sensor located? |
