Hey guys,

I have a Ford 1979 Fairmont XD, pacemaker headers and 2.1/2 exhaust with a C4 auto...

Im looking to upgrade and put a new cam on my car for extra (kw)
how hard is it to do your self, and how much would it cost
also how many (kw) difference would it make?
where abouts do i look as in manufacturers for new cam for it?

If any help could be passsed on that would help heaps!!!

try wade cams,

is it v8 or a I6?? fitting a new cam to a 6 would be a pain in the a***, need the radiator to be removed, and the bumper.. im not sure how you would go with a v8? if you get a reground cam the cxost isnt much $200ish i think plus sum little parts for the rockers etc, as for improvement it should be good if you get the right cam. ring around try wade, crow cams etc..

The latter efi XE / XF cams are o/k for stealth improvement...

Sorry to be the d***head in the thread.. but this in in the 6 cylinder workshop

As for the cam, many manufacturers, Wade Cams do regrinds, meaning, you buy their cam for $122 or something, and then plus $110 for deposit, and then you get that back, when you send them your old cam. With wade cams, you will need shims, Im pretty sure this applies to 250's.
Chaning a cam in an OHC engine is piss easy, but with yours as mitch said, pain in the a***. But always a good experience. Improvements vary, and depend, If you've already got pacemakers, and exhaust, try a stage 2 wade, or maybe a stage 3. Stage 3 driveability becomes less evident. Just remember that just from a cam, the improvement is not HUGE.
Also have a look at Crow Cams, they have all sorts of stuff aswell..

Cheers and goodluck

if you are going to do your cam you may as well have the head shaved 40 thou for better compression and if you have the time and cash change to the xf unleaded head :P
