Hey

Im just wondering when replacing the water pump on my 98 EL XR6, do I need to apply any silicon to the gasket, or is the gasket enough on its own?

Cheers!

the gasket is usally fine but a small smear of silcone will not hurt it!

not a big a** bead just a smear

I put Permatex gasket sealant on all faces of the pump with a artists brush.

The foam thing they supply is too big and lame but the sealant is great

Yeah. I usually use permatex (in the plastic bottle) or a light smear of the form-a-gasket in the tube. there's nothing worse than a slight leak when you've re-assembled everybloodything.

Yea ditto! lol!

This time I found some good RTV stuff specifically for thermostat and water pump use. Seems to have done the trick! Only used a thing smear, and I just used my finger! :P
