Get it all, then custom tune on a dyno to bring it all together. Don't skimp out on the tuning, it's the most important part. The car will run without it, but will use more fuel etc. Don't use a generic tune either, as they will eventually kill the car.

East Coast Customs are doing a January special. $1399 for full custom tune with 3 tune types (power, street, economy) and you keep the tune box once done. Ummmm, there's also Real Dyno Performance, Hi-Torque Performance. There's 1 other, but can't remember the name off the top of my head. I'd honestly go with ECC, as they have just recently gone to Melbourne to be taught how to tune our DOHC's properly, and they've actually made some pretty decent power figures from a few XR6T's that have been through them.

It's widely known that the automatics don't like generic tunes (the shifts are firmed up), as they are usually firmed far beyond what is deemed safe. I trialled a generic tune for a little bit, and found that my car ran like a pig unless I was giving it some (the shifts were that hard, that I'd have a sore neck after driving for barely half an hour in the city). Fuel usage increased, as it didn't have the right AFR for the mods done. I went back to a stock tune, and the car ran a lot better. Is this proof enough??

At the end of the day, a proper custom tune is well worth the money spent.

I know of many people with generic tunes and custom mail order tunes, and non have had any dramas. So NO your proof is rubbish. Dyno tune V mail order tune debate has been going on for years. Show me some hard proof of generic tune car destruction, Then prove it was from the 'tune' and not the way the car was being treated. Most people get Tunes to improve fuel economy, firm up shifts,or to get the most from their mods. Stating a certain tune is worse than another tune because it didnt work for you is crap.

I'm not going to waste my time on a blithering idiot. You obviously have your mind made up about generic tunes. I know they're bad for the car, and will never use one ever again. I shall leave it at that. It's now up to the OP to make his decision based upon his own take on the situation.

So let me get this right. Im an idiot because i questioned your comment? I run a 98 octane race tune in my BFII and think it is the best bang for buck mod i have done to date. Tied all my other mods together(intake and exhaust) and drives beautifully. Fuel economy in both normal shift and performance shift have improved out of sight. If you havent got any real proof (except you got a sore neck) Please keep your one eyed uninformative views to yourself.
